Anambra is Safe and Open for All, Soludo Reassures Residents and Tourists

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to security, assuring residents, visitors, and tourists of their safety. The governor emphasized that collaborative efforts between the state government and security agencies have significantly addressed past challenges.

The reassurance came during a cultural event organized by the Okpoama Kingdom in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The occasion was particularly significant as Okpoama is the hometown of Anambra’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Ikioye Orutugu.

The statement, released in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Sunday, highlighted the government’s proactive measures to combat insecurity. Ikenga noted that before the establishment of "Operation Udogachi," Anambra had grappled with serious security threats, including kidnapping, armed robbery, ritual killings, and cult-related violence. However, concerted efforts have since led to remarkable improvements in the security landscape.

Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Gilbert Ibezim, Governor Soludo underscored the importance of cultural integration in fostering unity and progress among different communities. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring that Anambra remains a secure, welcoming, and attractive destination for residents and tourists alike.

“We want to assure you that Anambra is a safe and attractive destination for all residents, visitors, and tourists,” Soludo stated, urging stakeholders to continue supporting government initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and security in the state.

Beyond security, the governor highlighted Anambra’s rich cultural heritage and numerous tourist attractions. He pointed out landmarks such as Agulu Lake, Ogbunike Cave, and the Igbo-Ukwu Museum, which stand as testaments to the state’s deep historical and artistic legacy.

Soludo further emphasized Anambra’s vibrant cultural scene, which is brought to life through major festivals like Imo Awka, Afia Oru, New Yam, and Ofala Festivals. These festivals, he noted, celebrate the unique traditions and customs of the Igbo people while attracting visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

Security Collaboration and Progress

CP Ikioye Orutugu, in his address at the cultural event, reinforced the governor’s stance, asserting that Anambra’s improved security situation is a product of collective efforts between the government, security agencies, and local communities.

The police commissioner acknowledged the role of various security initiatives, including Operation Udogachi, which was launched to tackle the wave of criminal activities that once plagued the state. Through intelligence-driven policing, community involvement, and strategic operations, the security architecture has been strengthened, making Anambra one of the safer states in the region.

Ikenga, quoting Orutugu, emphasized that the success of the cultural event—attended by dignitaries from Anambra and Bayelsa—serves as proof that the state is now safe for social and economic activities.

“The presence of esteemed guests and the smooth execution of this event are clear indications that Anambra is not just safe but thriving,” Orutugu noted.

In a show of solidarity and inclusivity, the commissioner extended warm greetings to both Christian and Muslim communities in Anambra, as they marked Mothering Sunday and Eid al-Fitr, respectively, on Sunday. His message underscored the essence of religious harmony in the state, which has contributed to its peaceful atmosphere.

A Future of Security and Development

Governor Soludo’s renewed commitment to security aligns with his broader vision for Anambra’s transformation. His administration has continually stressed that economic growth, investment opportunities, and tourism can only thrive in a secure environment.

With cultural events such as the one organized by the Okpoama Kingdom, Anambra is gradually positioning itself as a premier destination for cultural tourism, business, and investment. The government remains optimistic that ongoing efforts to maintain law and order will further attract local and international visitors.

As Anambra continues to evolve into a model of peace and progress, residents and investors can look forward to a state where security and development go hand in hand.
