APC Clears Seven Aspirants for Anambra Governorship Primary Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially cleared all seven aspirants seeking to contest in the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Primary Election. The party’s Screening Committee, led by former Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency Ibrahim Shehu Shema, has completed its review process and approved the candidacy of all individuals who expressed interest in the party’s ticket.

The APC Governorship Primary Election for Anambra State is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, and the aspirants will now proceed to the next stage of the electoral process.

Cleared Aspirants

The seven aspirants who have successfully passed the screening process and are set to compete in the primary election are:

  1. Sir Paul Chukwuma
  2. High Chief Prof. Obiora Francis Okonkwo
  3. Hon. Prince Nicholas Chukwujekwu Ukachukwu
  4. Hon. Chukwuma Michael Umeoji
  5. Valentine Chineto Ozigbo
  6. Johnbosco Obinna Onunkwo
  7. Edozie Madu

Each of these candidates has received a Certificate of Clearance, officially recognizing their eligibility to participate in the primary election process.

Special Waiver for Valentine Ozigbo

One of the aspirants, Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, has been granted a special waiver by the APC leadership, allowing him to contest in the primary election despite possible party membership requirements. The decision underscores the party’s commitment to inclusivity and its willingness to accommodate candidates who can contribute meaningfully to its success in Anambra State.

Membership Revalidation Ahead of Primaries

Ahead of the primary election, the APC has mandated that all party members in Anambra State, including both new and existing members, must revalidate their membership as prescribed by the party. This move is aimed at ensuring that only registered and verified members participate in the voting process, reinforcing transparency and credibility in the internal election.

APC Reaffirms Commitment to a Transparent Process

In a statement issued by Felix Morka, Esq., the APC National Publicity Secretary, the party reaffirmed its dedication to a free, fair, and transparent primary election. The screening process, he noted, was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines to ensure that all aspirants meet the necessary requirements.

The party has also encouraged all aspirants to engage in issue-based campaigns as they seek the support of party delegates ahead of the primaries.

Significance of the Election

The Anambra State Governorship Election is set to be one of the most keenly contested political battles in the state’s history, with the APC aiming to strengthen its presence and possibly take over governance from the ruling party. The screening and clearance of aspirants mark a critical step in the party’s preparations for the election.

With the primary election just a few weeks away, all eyes are now on the seven aspirants as they engage in consultations and strategic planning to secure the party’s nomination. The outcome of the primary will determine who will fly the APC flag in the main Anambra State Governorship Election later this year.

As the process unfolds, party members, stakeholders, and political observers will be watching closely to see how the APC positions itself for what promises to be a highly competitive election in Anambra State.
