Governor Mbah Orders Relocation of Motor Spare Parts Dealers to Nsude, Creating New Trade Hub for Enugu and Nnewi

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has issued an executive order mandating the relocation of all motor spare parts markets in the state to the newly constructed International Motor Spare Parts Market at Nsude, in Udi Local Government Area.

The governor signed the order on Friday at the Government House in Enugu, stating that the move was part of his administration’s commitment to providing a better business environment for traders. He assured that the new market would be equipped with modern facilities to enhance trading activities and improve the welfare of the dealers.

According to Mbah, ongoing construction at the site includes road expansion, installation of essential amenities, and the creation of a secure trading environment. He expressed confidence that significant progress would be evident within the next few months.

New Market with Modern Facilities

The governor emphasized that the International Motor Spare Parts Market was designed to offer more than just trading spaces, as it would feature various essential services.

“Our vision is to establish an international market that provides comprehensive services,” he said. “There will be a clinic, fire service station, and a truck park. Many challenges faced in the existing markets will be addressed in this new location.”

He further explained that provisions had been made to accommodate dealers and their families within the vicinity of the market, ensuring that they live close to their businesses.

“This is an ideal neighborhood concept, where traders can live comfortably while conducting business in a well-structured environment,” Mbah added.

Better Opportunities for Spare Parts Dealers

Speaking to journalists after the signing, the Managing Director of Enugu State Investment Development Authority, Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, highlighted the numerous advantages of the new market. He noted that it would provide adequate space, improved security, and modern infrastructure to support traders.

According to Ogbu-Nwobodo, many spare parts dealers in Enugu have, for years, faced difficulties in securing trading spaces for their apprentices after training. The new market, he said, would address this issue by creating more opportunities for business expansion.

“The location is strategic, as it sits along the routes leading to the Middle Belt, South-South, Onitsha, and Nnewi. Every traveler passing through these routes will inevitably pass by the market,” he explained.

He further assured that shops in the new market would be both affordable and accessible, encouraging economic growth in the state.

Dealers Welcome the Relocation

The President of the Enugu Market Spare Parts Dealers Association, Mr. Mike Nomeh, expressed the association’s full support for the relocation. Speaking to reporters, he praised Governor Mbah for fulfilling a long-standing promise that past administrations had failed to implement.

“In our general meeting, we unanimously agreed to relocate to the new market in Obofia Nsude. There is no dispute about this decision,” Nomeh stated.

He noted that spare parts dealers currently operate in various locations, including Coal Camp, Abakpa, Emene, Eke Obinagu, Gariki, Presidential Road, and Old Artisan.

“For decades, past governments promised to relocate us to a better trading environment, but those promises were never kept. Governor Mbah is the first leader to take real action, and we are grateful for that,” Nomeh added.

Economic Impact of the Relocation

The relocation of the spare parts dealers is expected to have a significant economic impact on Enugu State. By consolidating the market into a single, well-organized hub, the state government aims to create a stronger commercial center, attract more investors, and improve overall business efficiency.

With modern infrastructure, better security, and increased access to customers traveling across major routes, the International Motor Spare Parts Market at Nsude is set to become a key trading hub, boosting the state’s economic outlook.

As construction progresses, both traders and government officials remain optimistic that the market will transform the business landscape for spare parts dealers in Enugu, offering them greater opportunities for growth and prosperity.
