The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially closed the registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), marking the beginning of intense preparations for the nationwide exam.
This year’s registration process, which commenced on February 3, 2025, saw an impressive 2,030,627 candidates successfully complete their enrollment. These candidates will now gear up for the highly anticipated UTME, set to take place on April 25, 2025. Notably, this figure does not include those registering for the exam at foreign centres, further highlighting the massive scale of the exercise.
In addition to the main examination, a significant number of candidates have opted to participate in the optional mock UTME, scheduled for April 5, 2025. A total of 200,115 candidates expressed interest in taking the mock exam, with a smaller group of 630 registering specifically for a trial mock test, also set for the same date.
JAMB Introduces Tougher Security Measures Against Exam Malpractice
As the UTME draws near, JAMB has emphasized its commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process. In its latest weekly bulletin, released on Monday, the board reaffirmed its dedication to combating cheating and fraudulent activities.
To this end, JAMB has rolled out a series of innovative security measures designed to detect and prevent malpractice. The effectiveness of these new systems has already been demonstrated, as several candidates have been apprehended for attempting to gain admission using forged A-level results.
“This year, the Board has implemented several innovative measures to deter cheating and maintain the integrity of the examination process,” JAMB stated.
“These measures have already led to multiple arrests of candidates attempting to use forged A-level results for admission, highlighting the effectiveness of the new system designed to detect such fraud.”
This crackdown signals a strong warning to candidates who may be considering dishonest means to gain admission into tertiary institutions. JAMB has urged all registered candidates to strictly adhere to the examination guidelines and regulations, warning that any form of malpractice will be met with severe consequences.
Countdown to the 2025 UTME: What Candidates Should Expect
With the UTME just weeks away, candidates are encouraged to focus on their preparation and familiarize themselves with JAMB’s guidelines. The board has assured candidates that the examination process will be conducted smoothly, with strict monitoring at all centres nationwide.
As the academic community and prospective university students count down to the examination date, JAMB’s emphasis on fairness and transparency serves as a reminder that success in the UTME can only be achieved through diligence and hard work.
With over 2 million candidates competing for a limited number of university placements, the 2025 UTME is set to be one of the most competitive yet. As the stakes rise, JAMB remains resolute in ensuring that only deserving students gain admission into Nigeria’s higher institutions.
