Multiple Accidents on Oraifite-Onitsha Road Result in Three Injuries and Five Unscathed

In a dramatic turn of events on the Oraifite-Onitsha Road, a series of accidents involving three vehicles left three people injured, while five others were fortunate enough to escape without harm. The crash occurred on Wednesday morning at around 9:50 a.m., near the Nwazota Oraifite Junction, sparking immediate response from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra.

According to Mrs. Margaret Onabe, the spokesperson for the FRSC in the state, the incident involved three vehicles, including a green DAF commercial truck, a white Sino truck, and a private Toyota Camry. Mrs. Onabe confirmed that a total of eight adult males were involved in the accident, of whom three sustained injuries while the remaining five walked away unscathed. Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported from the accident.

The cause of the crash was attributed to excessive speed and a subsequent loss of control by one of the drivers. Eyewitnesses revealed that the Sino truck, which was driven by Onyekachi Chijioke, was traveling at a high speed when it veered off course and collided with the Toyota Camry. At the time of the collision, the Camry had been stationary at a T-junction, waiting for another truck to pass. The force of the crash pushed the Camry into the path of the Sino truck, resulting in the pile-up.

The vehicles involved in the accident were identified as a white-grey/blue Sino truck, bearing the registration number NEM514XA, owned by BUA Cement. The green DAF commercial truck, with registration number 9BGT18LG, was driven by Mr. Sunday, and the black Toyota Camry, registered GCE533FR, belonged to Mr. Michael Nkeowuka.

Following the incident, FRSC personnel swiftly arrived on the scene and took immediate action. The injured victims were quickly transported to Josephine & Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Ifite Oraifite for medical treatment. Thankfully, none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. The FRSC team worked tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the accident, implementing traffic control measures and ensuring that tow truck operators were called in to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.

In her statement, Mrs. Onabe emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and exercising caution while driving. She stressed that speeding is one of the most common causes of accidents and urged motorists to remain vigilant and considerate while on the road. The FRSC Command also reiterated the need for greater awareness of road safety practices, highlighting the role of driving schools, proper signage, and a firm understanding of the highway code in preventing accidents.

Mrs. Joyce Alexander, the Corps Commander for Anambra State, expressed her concern over the incident, urging all road users to remain responsible and obey traffic rules to prevent future accidents. She particularly pointed out that the enforcement of road safety laws is essential in reducing the frequency of accidents on Nigerian roads, especially on busy highways like the Oraifite-Onitsha road.

The FRSC also took the opportunity to remind road users that the implementation of speed limits and cautious driving are crucial to ensuring safety on the roads. Mrs. Onabe’s statement concluded with a plea for everyone to commit to safe driving practices, emphasizing that these steps are necessary for reducing fatalities and injuries caused by preventable accidents.

As the investigation continues, the FRSC has called for a sustained effort from both authorities and the public to ensure that roads remain safe for everyone.
