President Tinubu Commissions Landmark Projects at UNIZIK’s 19th Convocation

 


Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, witnessed a momentous occasion as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, commissioned six completed projects during the institution’s 19th Convocation Ceremony. The event, held amidst much fanfare, underscored the university’s commitment to infrastructural advancement and academic excellence.

The commissioned projects include a Faculty of Social Sciences 700-seater Auditorium, generously donated by philanthropist Chief Benson Madubuko, a Student Hostel Type ‘D’ in Awka, and the reconstructed Southern Boundary/Frontage Fence of the university. Other completed projects unveiled were a block of 20-room self-contained staff offices at the College of Medicine, NAUTH, Nnewi, the Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah Medical Centre signage in Awka, and a Tetfund-sponsored Environmental Management Laboratory.

Beyond commissioning these projects, the event also featured the foundation stone laying of the CEP Legacy Administrative Complex, a project expected to serve as a landmark administrative hub in the institution.

Addressing attendees, President Tinubu, through his representative, Professor Ikechebelu, lauded the efforts of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, for his visionary leadership in enhancing the university’s teaching and research capacities. The President further urged students and faculty members to rally behind the current administration’s goal of propelling UNIZIK to greater academic heights.

“This administration is keen on fostering an environment where students and faculty can thrive. These projects are not just physical structures; they represent a future of innovation, learning, and research excellence,” the President remarked.

The commissioning ceremony was marked by a series of symbolic gestures, including ribbon-cutting, unveiling of project signage, and group photographs capturing the historic moment.

Dignitaries present at the event included His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the University Chancellor, Barr. Monsur Olugbenga Kukoyi, the Pro-Chancellor, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, and other key officials of the university.

The newly commissioned projects are expected to bolster the university’s infrastructure and contribute significantly to the overall academic experience of students and faculty. The expansion efforts align with the broader vision of making UNIZIK a world-class institution, capable of competing on both national and international fronts.

With the successful completion and inauguration of these projects, the university community is optimistic about the institution’s continued growth, as it remains steadfast in its mission to provide quality education and research-driven solutions to societal challenges.
