From APC Pillar to YPP’s Torchbearer: Paul Chukwuma Ignites Political Shift Ahead of Anambra Governorship Poll

In a bold political maneuver that has sent ripples through Anambra’s political landscape, former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Paul Chukwuma, has officially declared his governorship ambition under the banner of the Young Progressives Party (YPP). The declaration, made on Wednesday, marks a significant departure from his long-standing affiliation with the APC and positions him as a major contender in the upcoming November 8 gubernatorial election.

Chukwuma, who had been a leading aspirant within the APC for the party’s ticket, announced his exit following allegations of irregularities in the primary election process. According to sources close to the politician, the internal selection process lacked transparency and fairness—issues that Chukwuma reportedly tried to address before ultimately stepping aside.

Despite parting ways with the APC, Chukwuma’s statement made it clear that his respect and loyalty for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remain unwavering. “My belief in President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda is steadfast,” Chukwuma declared, reaffirming his ideological alignment with the broader goals of national development, even as he transitions to a new political home.

His entry into the YPP has been met with widespread excitement and optimism across Anambra State, with many residents seeing it as a breath of fresh air in the state’s political dynamics. Supporters took to the streets in celebration, chanting slogans and displaying banners bearing his name, while testimonials of his philanthropy and people-centered approach began to flood social media and local gatherings.

“He’s a man who has touched lives, even without holding an executive office. Paul Chukwuma’s decision to join YPP is a game-changer for our state,” said Ifeanyi Nwosu, a resident of Awka. “He’s a true leader who has always put the people first.”

Indeed, Chukwuma’s footprint in Anambra politics is well-established. During his time in the APC, he was instrumental in expanding the party’s infrastructure across the state. He was pivotal in securing the party’s state secretariat, as well as establishing offices in all 21 local government areas and 326 wards, a feat many credit as a foundation for APC’s growing visibility in the state.

Political analysts believe his move to the YPP could significantly alter the electoral calculus, particularly as the YPP continues to attract youthful, reform-minded candidates with grassroots support. With a track record that blends organizational capacity, philanthropy, and a populist touch, Chukwuma may well be the candidate to watch.

Although details of his campaign manifesto are expected in the coming weeks, early indications suggest a strong focus on youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and governance reform—areas Chukwuma has frequently spoken about in previous public engagements.

For now, all eyes are on the YPP’s next moves and how the party plans to harness Chukwuma’s influence and political momentum. One thing, however, is clear: the November 8 election just became a lot more interesting.

Further details of Chukwuma’s campaign rollout and policy agenda will be revealed in the coming days.
