Governor Soludo’s Solo Ride: APGA Unanimously Picks Governor for 2025 Election Battle

Awka, Anambra State – April 5, 2025

In a political move that surprised no one but underscored his enduring influence, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has officially secured the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the upcoming November 8, 2025 election. The primary election, held in the heart of the state capital, Awka, on Saturday, saw the governor returned unopposed—a reflection of his commanding hold on the party's structure and support base.

The event, marked by tight security and an air of ceremony, brought together top stakeholders of APGA, delegates from all 21 local government areas, and observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The outcome was swift and emphatic: over 300 delegates cast their votes in favor of the incumbent, reaffirming the party’s confidence in Soludo’s leadership and his ability to deliver another term.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor and seasoned economist had long been touted as APGA’s clear choice for a second term, with no internal challenger daring to step forward. His unopposed emergence not only showcased his popularity within the party ranks but also signaled strategic consensus, as APGA seeks continuity rather than disruption.

Party Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, while announcing the result, hailed Soludo as “the best candidate to keep Anambra on the path of transformation and stability.” Oye described the primary as “transparent, peaceful, and a model of intra-party democracy,” even in the absence of contest.

“We are presenting a man who has redefined governance in Anambra,” Oye told a crowd of cheering supporters. “Under him, our roads are better, our economy is more robust, and the people have a renewed sense of purpose.”

Since assuming office in March 2022, Soludo has championed several reforms across infrastructure, education, technology, and security. His administration has also been vocal about reducing the cost of governance and encouraging investment into the state’s industrial base. These accomplishments, according to party loyalists, have solidified his position as APGA’s best hope in the upcoming election.

In his acceptance speech, Soludo thanked party delegates and supporters for their unwavering faith in his leadership. “This is not just a victory for me; it is a mandate for continuity, consolidation, and bold progress,” he said. “The journey we began three years ago is far from over. We must continue to build a liveable and prosperous homeland for every Anambra son and daughter.”

He also acknowledged the challenges ahead, including fierce competition expected from rival parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), both of whom are yet to finalize their own flagbearers.

Political analysts view Soludo’s unchallenged nomination as a tactical advantage, giving him a head start in campaigning and avoiding the internal fractures that often accompany contested primaries. However, they also warn that the battle at the polls will be anything but predictable.

As Anambra inches closer to the November gubernatorial showdown, the stage is set. With Soludo now firmly in the race, all eyes turn to the opposition and how they intend to counter the political momentum of a sitting governor with a technocratic profile, grassroots alliances, and a record to defend.

For APGA, the message is clear: Soludo is not just the candidate—they believe he is the vision.
