Lasbery College of Health Technology (LCHT) Ogidi Calls for Infrastructure Funding as Pharmacy Technicians Take Oath

Lasbery College of Health Technology (LCHT) Ogidi has made a passionate appeal to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the Anglican Communion, and other well-meaning individuals to support the institution in developing its permanent site. The college, currently operating within the Iyienu Mission Hospital facility, is seeking financial assistance to construct classrooms, administrative blocks, and hostels at its newly acquired location opposite Anglican Girls Secondary School, Ogidi.

The call for infrastructural aid was made by the institution’s Director, Pharm. Ezedum, during the Graduation and Oath-Taking Ceremony of the Pharmacy Technology Department. Ezedum urged Governor Soludo, known for his commitment to education, to extend his support to the faith-based college owned by the Anglican Diocese on the Niger. She emphasized that the expansion would enable the institution to admit more students and train a larger workforce for the health sector.

“We are grateful for the strides Governor Soludo has made in the education sector. However, we appeal for his intervention in developing our permanent site, which remains an empty land. By constructing essential facilities, we can increase our student intake from 50 to 100, significantly improving access to quality health education,” Ezedum stated.

Induction and Graduation of Pharmacy Technicians

The ceremony, which marked the induction of graduates into the Reformed Forum for Pharmacy Technicians in Nigeria (RFPTN), was a moment of pride for both students and faculty. Having successfully completed a three-year academic journey and passed the Nigerian Pre-Certification Examination, the graduates were formally welcomed into the profession under the auspices of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

Representing the Acting Provost, Kosisochukwu Amamgbo, the Acting Registrar, Rev. Chukwunonso Okonkwo, congratulated the inductees, urging them to approach their careers with diligence and perseverance. He encouraged them to embrace lifelong learning, curiosity, and innovation in their field.

“The world needs your expertise and dedication. Be bold in your pursuits, seek continuous improvement, and always uphold the ethics of the profession,” Okonkwo advised.

Commitment to Excellence in Health Technology

The PCN Registrar, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, represented by the Anambra State Officer, Pharm. Fechi Njoku, reminded the new professionals of their responsibilities. She stressed that pharmacy technicians must adhere to the strict regulations of the PCN, emphasizing that their professional integrity and registration status would determine their career trajectory.

Similarly, the National President of RFPTN, Pharm. Tech. Shagba Humphrey T., represented by Pharm. Tech. Ugochukwu Ohazuruike, reiterated the significance of discipline and compliance within the pharmaceutical sector. He urged the fresh graduates to remain observant and proactive, emphasizing that their roles as sub-cadre professionals should always reflect the honor and integrity of the field.

“Pharmacy is a noble profession. As technicians, your supervision will come from pharmacists or senior colleagues. Ensure you uphold the values of the profession and contribute positively to the health sector,” he stated.

Students and Parents Celebrate Academic Milestones

The ceremony was also an emotional one for students and their families, who celebrated their academic achievements. Among the notable inductees were Pharm. Tech. Somto Mbah, the outgoing Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Pharm. Tech. Mmaduabuchi Precious Izuobi, a First-Class graduate, and Nwoke Adaora Jennifer, all of whom received awards for outstanding performances. They expressed their gratitude to the college and pledged to represent their alma mater with excellence in their respective careers.

Parents, including Sir Leo Iloegbunam Anyanwu, Mr. Ignatius Izuobi, and Mrs. Ifeoma Izuobi, expressed their joy, acknowledging the sacrifices made to see their children succeed. They praised the institution for molding their wards into competent professionals and encouraged the graduates to remain diligent in their careers.

Honoring a Legacy and Looking Forward

A key highlight of the event was the send-forth ceremony for Pharm. Ugoji John Obiajulu, the pioneering Head of Department (HOD) for Pharmacy Technology at LCHT Ogidi. Faculty and students celebrated his invaluable contributions to the institution’s development, presenting him with gifts in appreciation of his service.

The event also featured an induction lecture by Pharm. Ukpoma Solace C., oath-taking, the ceremonial cutting of the graduation cake, and a farewell party for the outgoing HOD.

A Call for Support and Growth

As LCHT Ogidi looks toward expansion, it remains hopeful that the appeal for financial and infrastructural support will be met. The institution’s leadership is optimistic that with government assistance and contributions from individuals and organizations, the college will soon relocate to its permanent site and accommodate a larger number of aspiring pharmacy technicians.

With its commitment to producing highly skilled professionals, Lasbery College of Health Technology continues to solidify its place as a premier institution in modern health technology education.
