Nigerian Man Laments After Losing N18 Million to UK Immigration Scam [VIDEO]

A Nigerian man identified as Harry has come forward with a harrowing tale of deception and despair after being scammed by fraudulent immigration agents who promised him a lucrative job in the United Kingdom. His dreams of a better life abroad have crumbled into a nightmare of financial ruin, leaving him stranded and helpless in a foreign land.

Harry’s ordeal was featured in an investigative report by BBC African Eye, shedding light on the increasing cases of immigration fraud targeting desperate job seekers. Speaking anonymously in the video, Harry revealed that he spent close to N18 million on the relocation process, only to arrive in the UK and discover there was no job waiting for him.

A Dream Turned Nightmare

Before setting out on his journey, Harry had high hopes. He believed in the promise of a stable job that would allow him to support his family and secure his future. To fund his relocation, he made the painful decision to sell his assets, including cars and landed properties. Additionally, he resigned from his well-paying job and borrowed money from family, friends, and even his aging parents, who pooled together their meager earnings from farming.

"I calculated everything. I did the mathematics. I told myself, ‘Don’t worry, give me six months, I was going to do a good job.’ But now, I haven’t even sent a penny to my mum," he lamented.

Harry’s confidence was shattered upon arrival in the UK. The job that was promised to him never existed, leaving him stranded with no means of livelihood. With debts piling up and no income, his situation has become increasingly dire.

Nowhere to Turn

For Harry, returning home is not an option. The shame of facing the people he borrowed from without any money to pay them back is unbearable.

“The people you are still owing, what do you go to tell them when you get back home? You tell them you’re sorry? You came back, and there’s no money? Who would listen to that?” he questioned.

Struggling to survive, he has found solace only in the church, where he seeks comfort in prayers.

"The church is the only place I find solace," he admitted, his voice heavy with regret and frustration.

Scammers Profit While Victims Suffer

Harry’s story is not unique. Many young Nigerians fall victim to fraudulent immigration schemes that exploit their desperation for better opportunities abroad. These scammers operate by promising high-paying jobs and sponsorship deals, collecting hefty fees, and then disappearing once their victims reach foreign soil.

“The scammers keep getting rich, using people’s sweat—people that have labored,” Harry stated bitterly.

As fraudulent immigration schemes continue to rise, experts have urged job seekers to conduct thorough investigations before committing large sums of money to any overseas employment offer.

For Harry, the reality of being scammed is a painful lesson. His future remains uncertain as he struggles to find a way out of his predicament, hoping against hope that he will eventually reclaim his lost dreams.
