No More Sidelines: Anambra’s Path to National Relevance Begins with the Nigerian Army

Anambra Youth Urged to Seize Golden Opportunity as Nigerian Army Opens Recruitment

As the Nigerian Army opens its doors once again for recruitment into its 89th Regular Recruits Intake (Tech Recruitment Exercise), the spotlight turns to Anambra State, where a familiar but concerning pattern threatens to repeat itself: low turnout of eligible youth for enlistment.

Historically, Anambra has consistently failed to meet its quota in national Armed Forces recruitment drives, resulting in lost opportunities specifically reserved for the state’s young men and women. While other regions of the country step up enthusiastically, the Southeast—and Anambra in particular—lags behind, raising concerns among analysts and stakeholders.

But with a fresh window now open—from March 31 to May 17, 2025—Anambra youth are once again presented with a life-changing chance to forge meaningful careers, build national influence, and secure personal and communal futures through military service.

More Than a Job – A Call to Purpose

Military service in Nigeria is often misunderstood in some quarters, especially within the Southeast, where skepticism and past grievances sometimes cloud perception. Yet, the Nigerian Armed Forces have steadily proven to be one of the nation’s most inclusive institutions—one that values merit, discipline, and unity above ethnicity or origin.

This year’s recruitment cycle is not just another enlistment drive. It's a structured gateway to a dignified and rewarding future. Successful candidates stand to benefit from stable, competitive salaries, free education and training, comprehensive healthcare, housing support, pension and gratuity schemes, and the unique honor of serving the nation.

Crucially, the process is entirely free of charge—a rarity in a world often riddled with hidden costs. From registration to final screening, applicants are shielded from financial exploitation, making this a truly accessible opportunity for all eligible youths.

The Criteria Are Clear—And Attainable

Applicants must be single, physically fit, and between the ages of 18 and 22 (or up to 26 years for those with technical qualifications). They must also have no criminal record and meet the basic academic and health standards expected by the Army.

Interested individuals can apply online through the Nigerian Army recruitment portal: https://recruitment.army.mil.ng. Once the application period closes on May 17, shortlisted candidates will participate in a screening exercise within Anambra State from June 2 to June 16, 2025.

A Time for Reflection and Action

Commentators have pointed out that marginalization rhetoric rings hollow if opportunities are left on the table. “If you’re not at the table when the cake is being shared, you can’t complain about your portion,” a popular Igbo adage reminds. The message is simple: representation begins with participation.

By joining the Nigerian Army, Anambra youths won’t just secure a livelihood—they’ll ensure that their region’s voice is heard, their identity respected, and their contributions recognized in national decision-making circles.

A Call to Courage and Vision

This isn’t just a call for enlistment—it’s a call for vision. A call to a new generation of Ndi Anambra to wear the uniform not only as a badge of honor but as a strategic step into influence, progress, and service.

Now is the time. Anambra youth must ask themselves: if not now, then when? If not us, then who?

With the Nigerian Army’s gates wide open, the ball is in the court of the young, able, and visionary. The future won’t wait.
