As Christians across Nigeria and around the world celebrate Easter, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered a heartfelt address to the nation, urging citizens to draw strength from the enduring lessons of sacrifice, hope, and renewal that define the season.
The President’s Easter message came at a moment of national introspection and challenges, striking a tone that was both reflective and resolute. While honoring the spiritual significance of Easter—the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ—President Tinubu called on Nigerians to embody the values it represents: love, redemption, sacrifice, and unwavering hope.
“The Holy Week invites us to reflect on timeless virtues,” the President said, referencing the journey from Palm Sunday through Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and culminating in Easter Sunday. “As a nation, we are called not just to celebrate, but to internalize the spiritual renewal that Easter symbolizes.”
In a speech that balanced solemnity with optimism, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over recent tragedies in various parts of the country, acknowledging the loss of lives and the trauma inflicted on affected communities. He assured Nigerians that his administration is not only aware of these concerns but is actively confronting the scourge of insecurity head-on.
“These events have left me profoundly saddened,” he noted. “Let me assure all Nigerians that our commitment to restoring peace and safety is absolute. I have given unequivocal instructions to our Armed Forces and all security agencies to address the situation decisively and urgently.”
President Tinubu reaffirmed his belief that the nation’s security forces, buoyed by bravery and professionalism, are making meaningful strides in reclaiming troubled areas. “With the courage of our gallant men and women in uniform, we are steadily reversing the tide,” he said. “Forces of evil will never overpower the will of a united Nigeria.”
Amid the security challenges, the President also addressed the economic strains felt by many Nigerians, acknowledging the patience and resilience of the people. While noting signs of economic recovery, Tinubu pledged that efforts to stabilize and reform the economy would remain a central priority of his administration.
“We are working tirelessly to attract investment, boost key industries, and build an economy that is inclusive and fair,” he stated. “I am fully committed to delivering the promise of Renewed Hope—a better, more just, and more prosperous Nigeria for all.”
On the international front, the President joined the global Christian community in celebrating the recovery of Pope Francis, expressing gratitude for the pontiff’s return to health and praying for continued strength in his global ministry.
In his closing remarks, President Tinubu sought to uplift the spirit of the nation by drawing a powerful parallel between Christ’s triumph over death and Nigeria’s ability to overcome its current adversities. “Though the present may appear clouded, we are on the path to a brighter dawn,” he said. “Just as Christ conquered death, we too shall conquer every challenge before us.”
He called on citizens to remain united and forward-looking, emphasizing that the collective spirit of the Nigerian people is the country's most valuable asset.
“Our unity and our resilience are the pillars of our strength,” Tinubu declared. “Let us not waver. Let us walk in faith and determination. Together, there is no obstacle we cannot overcome.”
The President concluded by extending Easter blessings to all Nigerians, praying for peace in their homes and continued progress for the nation.
“May the risen Christ bless our homes with peace and our nation with continued unity and prosperity,” he said. “Happy Easter to all my fellow Nigerians.”
