Abuja, Nigeria – What was initially thought to be a tragic case of kidnapping has turned out to be a carefully planned act of deception, masterminded by an up-and-coming gospel singer, Timothy Ukpa, popularly known as Timothy Bliss. The singer, originally from Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State but currently residing in Abuja, is now in police custody after allegedly faking his own abduction in a plot that involved his twin brothers and several accomplices.
According to a source who spoke to reporters under the condition of anonymity, the entire drama unfolded days before the MC Walter Family Hangout Show, a local event in Abuja that Timothy reportedly intended to attend. He had told the individual he was squatting with that he was stepping out to get tickets for the event. That would be the last time anyone saw or heard from him — until chaos erupted.
After 48 hours of silence, a call came in from an unknown person speaking Hausa, claiming to have abducted Timothy. The caller demanded ₦20 million as ransom and issued a chilling threat: Timothy would be killed by Wednesday if the ransom wasn’t paid. The family and associates were thrown into panic, with a lawyer and several of Timothy’s uncles getting involved.
In an emotional phone call allowed by the supposed kidnappers, Timothy pleaded with his family in his local dialect, urging them to raise the ransom and save his life. He claimed three other captives had already been killed and described his location as a dense forest “where only planes come and go.” He also claimed to have been driven for five hours in a Black Maria, suggesting he was far removed from the city.
But suspicion began to rise when one of his uncles confided in the family lawyer that Timothy might be capable of staging such a stunt. Following the tip, the lawyer reported the case to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), which quickly engaged the Department of State Services (DSS) to track Timothy’s phone.
What the results revealed was startling: Timothy had never left Abuja. His mobile signal was traced to a modest hotel located in the slums of Gwagwa. Surveillance soon revealed that his twin brothers had spent the night with him there on the same day of the alleged abduction.
When the brothers were brought in for questioning, they initially denied any involvement. However, after their phones were seized, investigators discovered a steady stream of messages exchanged between the brothers and Timothy — clearly coordinating the fake kidnap narrative and sharing updates.
Then came a twist. When the alleged kidnappers called again, the police chose not to answer. Instead, they sent a message to Timothy using one of the seized phones. Unaware that he was now chatting with the authorities and not his siblings, Timothy replied immediately. He claimed he had fled to Kaduna for safety.
But the jig was up. The police confronted him with the evidence and assured him that his cover had been blown. Shortly after, Timothy returned to Abuja and confessed to orchestrating the entire ordeal.
As of the time of this report, efforts to reach the police for an official statement were unsuccessful. However, sources confirm that the singer is now in custody and is cooperating with ongoing investigations.
The incident has left many stunned, especially those who had admired Timothy Bliss for his spiritual messages and musical talent. What began as a bid for attention or money has now turned into a legal nightmare for the young singer — one that may cost him his budding career and public trust.
