₦70,000 Extortion Scandal: Soludo’s Security Aide Orders Arrest of Agunechemba Officer Over Harassment Case

The Special Adviser on Community Security to Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Chief Ken Emeakayi, has sent a strong message that accountability and discipline are the cornerstones of the Agunechemba Operation Udo Ga Chi Security Service. According to Emeakayi, no operative under the community security outfit will be shielded from the consequences of their actions, regardless of their position or connection.

Speaking from his office at the old Government House in Awka, Chief Emeakayi minced no words in asserting that the outfit functions strictly under the legal framework that established it. He made it clear that the operations of Agunechemba are devoid of favoritism, emotional bias, or ethnic sentiments. What matters, he emphasized, is adherence to the law and ethical conduct.

One disturbing incident highlighted during the interview involved an Agunechemba operative who reportedly harassed a young woman on an errand in Isuaniocha, a community within the Awka-North Local Government Area. According to Emeakayi, the operative accosted the woman under the pretext that she was not wearing a bra and subsequently extorted the sum of N70,000 from her.

Once the matter was brought to his attention through a formal complaint from the victim’s family, swift action was taken. The officer in question was identified by the victim, apprehended immediately, and is currently in handcuffs awaiting the due course of justice. Emeakayi reiterated that the administration has zero tolerance for such abuse of power and that similar actions will be taken wherever and whenever the law is violated by any member of the security team.

Another troubling development discussed involved unauthorized deployment of Agunechemba operatives for revenue collection in Onitsha-South Local Government Area. Emeakayi disclosed that the Local Government Mayor had unlawfully assigned the operatives to engage in revenue drives, which resulted in a serious altercation with local tricycle operators (popularly called Keke drivers).

Upon receiving credible information regarding the chaos, Emeakayi ordered a response team from Awka to take charge of the situation. The team acted promptly by arresting the operatives involved, disarming them, and seizing their vehicles and operational equipment. They were then brought back to Awka for disciplinary measures. As part of the corrective process, the Agunechemba operational vehicle assigned to Onitsha-South was confiscated and held for over a month. The operatives involved were made to sign a written undertaking affirming that peace had been restored with the Keke union members.

Beyond these specific cases, Emeakayi also addressed allegations that some members of the Agunechemba force were involved in a kidnapping incident. He firmly denied these claims, describing them as baseless and unfounded. According to him, a thorough investigation revealed that no such abduction took place and that the narrative was fabricated, possibly to discredit the security outfit. He urged the public to report genuine grievances while warning against misinformation, which undermines community security efforts.

Despite the challenges, Emeakayi emphasized that the security initiative has made significant contributions to restoring order in various communities. However, he acknowledged that continuous monitoring and discipline are crucial to maintaining the credibility of the security structure. He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, justice, and community safety, pointing out that any officer who deviates from their oath of service will face the full wrath of the law.

As a message to the public, Emeakayi encouraged residents of Anambra State to collaborate with Agunechemba by reporting any abuse or misconduct. He emphasized that the outfit exists to protect and serve the people, not to intimidate or exploit them. The governor’s aide concluded by reiterating his resolve to maintain law and order and build a security system that all residents can trust and rely on.

This unwavering stance sends a clear signal that the current administration under Governor Soludo is committed to upholding justice, not just in principle but in practice. The message is unmistakable: no one wearing the Agunechemba uniform is above the law.
