Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, on Sunday led a high-powered delegation of Nnewi community leaders to the Governor's Lodge in Amawbia, where they paid a courtesy visit to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
The visit, which was primarily a gesture of gratitude, followed Ambassador Ojukwu’s recent appointment into the Federal Executive Council by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Minister, who is the widow of the late political icon and APGA founder, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, expressed appreciation for the pivotal support Governor Soludo rendered in facilitating her nomination and subsequent appointment.
Governor Soludo, while announcing the visit via his social media platforms, revealed his delight at the minister’s swift adaptation to her new national assignment. According to him, her rise to the role of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs underscores not only her diplomatic acumen but also reflects the broader political evolution where meritocracy is beginning to outweigh political allegiance.
"Yesterday, I received a courtesy visit from the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, accompanied by a delegation of respected Nnewi indigenes," Soludo wrote. "They came to express their gratitude for my continued support, particularly during her nomination as Minister in the Renewed Hope administration. I am delighted to see her thrive in this role."
Governor Soludo emphasized that the recognition of Ambassador Ojukwu at the federal level is also a credit to the inclusive political strategy of President Tinubu. He praised the President for looking beyond party lines in selecting individuals he believes are best suited to serve the country, a development that he said heralds a new era of competence-driven governance.
"Ambassador Bianca’s appointment is a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to a unified Nigeria, where merit and capability transcend party lines," Soludo stated. "She is a round peg in a round hole, and I am confident she will make a significant impact."
The Anambra State Governor’s message highlighted a broader political narrative – one where the ideals of good governance and national unity are being prioritized over partisan interests. He described Ojukwu’s appointment as fitting and timely, noting that her track record as a diplomat and public servant made her an obvious choice for the role.
Ambassador Ojukwu, known for her poise, strong oratory, and diplomatic finesse, previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain. Her return to public service in a ministerial capacity has been widely applauded by political observers and members of the diplomatic corps, many of whom regard her as one of the few female stateswomen capable of articulating Nigeria’s foreign policy interests on the global stage with clarity and confidence.
Sunday’s courtesy visit was also symbolically significant for Nnewi community leaders, who saw it as an opportunity to showcase unity, solidarity, and political maturity. The visit served not just as a thank-you gesture, but also a reaffirmation of the historic political alliance between the Ojukwu family, the people of Nnewi, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA — a party that has long championed the aspirations of the southeast.
Throughout the meeting, sentiments of gratitude, mutual respect, and hope for greater collaboration in state and national affairs were strongly expressed. The governor, a former Central Bank of Nigeria governor turned reform-minded state leader, reiterated his openness to continue fostering unity and empowering competent individuals to drive progress, regardless of party affiliation.
Observers see this unfolding political camaraderie as a positive step in the evolving political dynamics of the southeast. It reflects an increasing maturity within the political elite, where bridging divides and emphasizing capability is taking precedence over political loyalty.
The visit ended on a high note, with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to the progress of Anambra State and Nigeria at large. Ambassador Ojukwu’s rise and her public expression of gratitude to Governor Soludo may yet signal a new tone of political engagement in a region known for its passionate, and at times, polarized politics.
