Child Abuse Sparks Outrage as Viral Video Shows Mother Brutally Attacking Daughter Over Broken Plates [VIDEO]

A disturbing video has recently emerged from Lagos State, Nigeria, showing a woman violently assaulting her young daughter. The video, which has gone viral across various social media platforms, has triggered a wave of public outrage and urgent calls for intervention.

The footage depicts a harrowing scene where the woman, enraged over a matter reportedly involving plates, unleashes a barrage of physical attacks on her child. She not only hits the little girl repeatedly but also slams her onto the ground and continues flogging her while the child screams in pain. The brutal act, carried out with alarming force, has been widely condemned by viewers across the country, many of whom are calling for her immediate arrest and prosecution.

Among those who have spoken out is Harrison Gwamnishu, a well-known Nigerian activist and founder of the Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation. He expressed deep concern over the contents of the video and has committed to taking action. According to Gwamnishu, his team is already mobilizing to visit the child’s home and assess the situation firsthand. Their aim is to determine the extent of the child’s physical and psychological trauma and to ensure that proper medical attention is given if necessary.

He stressed the importance of understanding and respecting children’s rights, pointing out that many parents are unaware that their disciplinary actions may actually be violations of the law. “We have what they call the Child's Rights Act,” Gwamnishu stated. “I believe every parent should just get a copy of it so you would know some of the offences you commit at home that you may not know. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.”

His words have resonated with many Nigerians who have shared the video in anger and disbelief. Gwamnishu went further to denounce the actions seen in the video as far beyond any acceptable form of discipline. He urged parents to recognize the thin line between correction and cruelty.

“Everybody wants to have a child who will be submissive, respectful and all,” he noted, “but please do not treat a child this way. Your child, someone else's child or anybody's child does not deserve to go through that kind of pain.”

The activist’s foundation is preparing to file a formal report with the police to ensure that the case is taken seriously and that justice is served. Legal experts aligned with the group are also expected to assist in ensuring that the mother, if found guilty, is held accountable in accordance with Nigeria’s child protection laws.

The Child’s Rights Act, which was passed into law in Nigeria in 2003, outlines numerous protections for minors, including the right to dignity, protection from abuse, and access to proper care and upbringing. Violations of these rights, such as the kind seen in the video, can result in criminal prosecution and removal of the child from the harmful environment.

This incident is just one of many that highlight the urgent need for public awareness around child abuse and the long-term damage it can inflict. Experts have long warned that children who suffer physical and emotional abuse may experience developmental delays, mental health disorders and difficulties forming healthy relationships later in life.

Residents in the Lagos community where the event allegedly took place are also reportedly cooperating with authorities to help identify the woman and provide context around the incident. Several people have contacted child protection services, urging them to step in swiftly to rescue the child and provide her with a safe space for healing.

Public figures, social workers and non-governmental organizations have taken to social media to express their support for the child and to condemn the mother’s actions. Many are calling for systemic reforms and more aggressive enforcement of child protection laws throughout Nigeria.

Although the child’s identity remains protected, Gwamnishu and his team have reassured the public that they are working tirelessly to ensure the girl’s safety and well-being. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding the health of the child and the progress of the investigation.

This latest case serves as a sobering reminder that discipline must never cross the line into abuse. The rights and dignity of every child must be preserved, regardless of the circumstances.
