Controversial Nigerian social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has once again set the internet ablaze, this time aiming his rhetorical flamethrower at one of the country's most well-known clergymen, Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries.
The online feud erupted after Pastor Ibiyeomie sternly warned bloggers and online commentators to steer clear of discussing or publishing news about him. His caution came with a bold threat—any form of criticism or disobedience, according to the pastor, could land the offender in legal trouble. While many observers interpreted this as an attempt to protect his public image, VeryDarkMan saw something entirely different: a blatant disregard for transparency and accountability.
Through a fiery video posted on his social media pages, VeryDarkMan wasted no time dissecting Ibiyeomie’s sermons and calling out what he described as “utter nonsense” passed off as divine preaching. According to the activist, the pastor’s disdain for criticism stems from a pulpit filled with controversial rhetoric and unchecked declarations.
“I took my time to go through his preaching,” VeryDarkMan stated. “And I think I understand why he says if you criticize him, they will arrest you. It’s because he says a lot of nonsense. And truly, the man no like criticism.”
The activist’s candid approach has gained him both devoted followers and fierce detractors. On this occasion, his attack on the revered pastor triggered a flood of online reactions, with many Nigerians applauding his bravery and unfiltered honesty.
One commenter, @damsaltgoldwigs, offered a sarcastic take on the situation: “Even pastors are taking notes 😂 VDM preach! Ride on papa😂😂”
Another supporter, @coachwilfredasuquo, praised the activist’s courage. “My President, you too much. Na only God go bless you for helping us to deliver this generation of Nigerian Youths from all these extortionists. Ibiyome go dey alright. May your Days be long VDM.”
A different kind of endorsement came from @mavysax, who imagined a new future for the activist: “VDM u go get church.. i go dey help you collect offering.. be like say God call you.”
Yet others chose to share personal experiences that called into question some of the miracles associated with Ibiyeomie’s ministry. One user, @rexokorie1, recalled: “I can remember when he hosted a crusade in my school, Michael Okpara University. That year, a lot of miracles were displayed, but none was a student. But Power Dey shaa.”
Pastor Ibiyeomie, known for his flamboyant preaching style and staunch support for traditional Pentecostal authority, has often drawn the ire of critics for his aggressive stance against dissenters. His recent comment warning bloggers to avoid mentioning his name sparked renewed debates over the balance between freedom of expression and respect for religious figures in Nigerian society.
VeryDarkMan has long positioned himself as a voice of the people, particularly the younger generation who frequently feel alienated by powerful religious and political institutions. While critics argue that his methods are unnecessarily abrasive and inflammatory, his growing popularity suggests that many Nigerians find his unfiltered commentary both refreshing and necessary.
This latest clash adds to an ongoing cultural discourse around religion, accountability, and the role of digital activism. Many see the rise of figures like VeryDarkMan as emblematic of a broader shift—a generation no longer content with silence in the face of perceived spiritual manipulation or elitist privilege.
Though Pastor Ibiyeomie has yet to respond directly to the latest video, speculation continues to build around whether this digital spat will escalate further or fizzle out as yet another footnote in Nigeria’s evolving battle between religious authority and social media outspokenness.
For now, it appears VeryDarkMan has no intentions of slowing down, and his audience is growing by the day. Whether one views him as a necessary disruptor or a disrespectful agitator, there’s no denying that his voice is echoing louder than ever across Nigeria’s digital landscape.
