Update: Man Arrested For K!lling Young Lady Inside Nuskka Hotel After She Demanded More Money For Second Round of S3x

A 22-year-old woman, identified as Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem, has tragically lost her life under violent circumstances in a hotel room in Nsukka, Enugu State. The prime suspect, Emmanuel Gambo, a 200-level student of Material and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is now in police custody following a detailed investigation by the Enugu State Police Command.

Authorities confirmed the incident stemmed from a confrontation that erupted between the suspect and the victim inside a hotel located in Obukpa, a community near UNN. Both individuals had checked into the hotel on the night of June 14, 2025, at around 9:00 p.m. What initially appeared to be a routine lodging quickly turned into a scene of horror by the following morning.

According to the police statement, a dispute broke out after the second round of sexual intercourse between the two. The victim reportedly requested an additional payment of ₦15,000, citing that she had already received ₦5,000 earlier. This request allegedly led to a heated argument which escalated into a physical altercation. Gambo, in the course of this violent exchange, is said to have strangled the young woman to death.

To conceal his crime, the suspect wrapped the lifeless body in a hotel towel and curtain, then forced it under the bed in the room. Two days later, on the morning of June 16, hotel staff noticed a strong and unpleasant odour emanating from the room. Upon inspection, they discovered the decomposing remains hidden beneath the bed frame. What followed was a swift alert to local authorities.

Efforts to immediately trace the suspect were initially hindered as he had provided false identification details at the hotel reception. The phone number listed on the hotel register was unreachable, further complicating initial investigation efforts. The case was subsequently transferred from the Nsukka Urban Police Division to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, prompting a full-scale inquiry.

Thanks to persistent intelligence-gathering and investigative work, detectives eventually tracked the suspect to his off-campus lodge in Nsukka on July 2, 2025. He was arrested without incident. During interrogation, Gambo reportedly confessed to the crime, offering a detailed account of the events leading to Deborah’s death. His statement also led officers to recover several of the victim’s belongings.

Among the items retrieved from the suspect were the deceased’s iPhone and a bottle of Asconi Agor red wine, believed to have been brought by the victim to the hotel. Investigators also discovered a Redmi tablet and a pair of earbuds, which Gambo had thrown out of the hotel window inside a bag, presumably in an effort to dispose of evidence.

The Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the investigation and commended the efforts of the officers involved. He reiterated the command’s commitment to pursuing justice in every case, no matter how complex or disturbing. He further assured residents of continued dedication to law enforcement and public safety.

While addressing the wider societal implications of the incident, CP Giwa urged parents and guardians to be vigilant regarding the activities of their children and wards. He also issued a caution to young people, warning against the dangers of social vices, peer pressure, and actions that could result in irreversible consequences.

This chilling case has sparked widespread discussion within the university community and beyond, raising urgent questions about youth behaviour, safety in hospitality spaces, and the increasing prevalence of transactional relationships among students. As investigations continue and the suspect faces the legal process, the tragic fate of Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem stands as a grim reminder of the fragile line between disagreement and disaster.

The police have assured the public that the suspect will be charged in court, and every effort will be made to ensure that justice is served fully and transparently.
