Paul Biya’s Controversial Victory In Cameroon Sparks Global Outrage As Timi Frank Labels It A Mockery Of Democracy

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has strongly condemned the declaration of 93-year-old Paul Biya as the winner of Cameroon’s presidential election. Frank described the development as a direct affront to the principles of democracy and a calculated assault on the will of the Cameroonian people.

Speaking through a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, Frank faulted the official results, alleging that the figures were manipulated to secure another term for Biya, who has ruled the Central African nation for over four decades. He described the election outcome as a political charade designed to sustain an aging regime at the expense of the people’s genuine aspirations.

According to Frank, the announcement of Biya’s victory reflects a deliberate suppression of democratic values and the denial of citizens’ right to freely choose their leader. He argued that the Cameroonian people had spoken clearly at the polls, but their voices were silenced by a system entrenched in deceit, coercion, and corruption.

He stated that, “The so-called results announced by the regime are a fabrication and a clear subversion of the people’s will. The world must not stand by while democracy in Cameroon is strangled in broad daylight.” His words echoed growing international concerns over Biya’s continued grip on power despite persistent allegations of electoral fraud and human rights violations.

Across major Cameroonian cities, tension reportedly escalated following the announcement of the results. Citizens who attempted to protest peacefully were met with a heavy-handed response from security forces. Frank lamented that the use of state violence against unarmed demonstrators revealed the government’s fear of accountability and its desperation to cling to power.

According to eyewitness accounts, several protesters have been killed or injured as security agents opened fire to disperse crowds demanding justice. Frank condemned the bloodshed, insisting that no government should resort to killing its own people for exercising their democratic rights. He called for immediate international intervention to halt what he described as “a state-sponsored massacre.”

He further demanded that those responsible for ordering and executing the attacks on civilians be held personally accountable before international law. “This bloodshed must end immediately. Those who ordered and carried out these killings must face justice. The International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations (UN) must investigate and ensure that justice is done,” he declared.

Frank expressed solidarity with Cameroonians who continue to resist oppression despite the climate of fear. He noted that the persistence of authoritarianism in Africa threatens the continent’s democratic progress and sets a dangerous precedent for future elections. The APC chieftain emphasized that silence from the international community would amount to complicity in the erosion of democracy in the region.

He asserted that the real winner of the Cameroonian election is Issa Tchiroma Bakary, whom he described as the candidate that truly represented the will of the people. Frank urged global powers, international observers, and regional organizations to acknowledge Bakary’s legitimate mandate and to pressure Biya to relinquish power.

According to him, the continued tolerance of electoral fraud and political repression in Africa has weakened faith in governance and deepened citizens’ disillusionment. He called on African leaders to unite against tyranny and defend democratic institutions across the continent.

Observers have noted that Biya’s lengthy rule has been marked by allegations of corruption, suppression of dissent, and manipulation of electoral systems. Despite mounting criticism, the veteran leader has continued to secure victories through elections that many international monitors describe as neither free nor fair.

Frank’s statement adds to a growing chorus of voices demanding democratic renewal in Cameroon. Human rights groups and civil society organizations across Africa have also condemned the government’s use of violence against protesters, warning that the crisis could escalate if urgent reforms are not pursued.

The opposition’s rejection of the results and the continuing unrest reflect deep divisions within the nation. Many Cameroonians, weary of decades under Biya’s leadership, view the recent election as a stolen opportunity for change.

Frank concluded by urging the African Union and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) to take proactive steps to mediate the crisis. He warned that if the world continues to ignore the situation, it will embolden dictatorships elsewhere and weaken the global fight for democracy.

The statement from Timi Frank stands as a passionate call for justice and international accountability. His words underscore a broader concern over Africa’s democratic resilience and the urgent need for world leaders to defend the rights of citizens whose voices are being silenced by the force of political power.
