Nigerian Comedian Destalker Shares Journey From Internet Fraud Attempts To Becoming Comedy Sensation

 

Destalker, one of Nigeria’s rising comedy stars, has opened up about how his career in comedy was born out of a failed attempt at internet fraud. The popular entertainer revealed on a recent episode of the In-house Gist podcast that his foray into internet scams did not go as planned, ultimately steering him toward the world of comedy.

The comedian shared that a close friend, now a Christian cleric, introduced him to internet fraud during his early years in Enugu. Destalker admitted that despite trying to participate, his kind-hearted nature prevented him from fully embracing the illicit lifestyle. While his friend was focused on finding victims to scam, Destalker found himself spending time chatting with family, friends, and old schoolmates from Ughelli on Facebook, often falling asleep during scam sessions.

“Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friends who is now a pastor, but I wasn’t successful at it. Then we would book night sessions at cyber cafes for N250. I couldn’t afford it then, so my friend always paid for me. He is now a big pastor, Rev. Nelson Umeh,” Destalker explained.

The comedian reflected on how his inability to scam others eventually became a turning point in his life. He described his compassionate nature as the main reason he could not engage in internet fraud. According to him, this failure did not leave him discouraged; rather, it laid the foundation for a path where he could pursue his true calling.

“Because it was not my destiny, I couldn’t defraud a person. Through all that I went through, I have grown so confident that no one can stop me from achieving my goal,” he said.

Destalker also spoke candidly about the challenges he faced in the comedy industry. He recounted instances where fellow comedians suggested he could not perform at certain shows without their approval. Despite this, he persisted, insisting that he could rise to prominence independently. His determination paid off as he eventually outshone expectations, with some of the shows that once doubted him fading away and several former competitors losing relevance.

Reflecting on his journey, Destalker emphasized that his success in comedy is a result of resilience and staying true to oneself. The shift from a failed attempt at internet fraud to becoming a celebrated comedian illustrates his ability to transform setbacks into opportunities. Today, he stands as a testament to the idea that embracing one’s authentic path can lead to both personal fulfillment and professional recognition.
