The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding every citizen across the country while strongly dismissing allegations of a targeted Christian genocide. It explained that the recent changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces and the restructuring of the nation’s security system were necessary measures to boost efficiency, accountability, and innovation in the ongoing war against terrorism and violent crime.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to realign the military hierarchy was a deliberate and strategic step aimed at reenergizing the country’s defence operations. He noted that the President had set a clear agenda that prioritizes total territorial security, stability, and the protection of every Nigerian regardless of religion or ethnicity.
According to Idris, the Tinubu administration is unwavering in its determination to end terrorism, banditry, and all forms of violent extremism that have plagued several regions for over a decade. He emphasized that the President has given firm instructions to the new service chiefs to ensure that no part of the country remains under the threat of insurgents or criminal groups. The Minister said this is not a cosmetic change but a fundamental shift in approach meant to produce measurable results.
“This strategic overhaul is designed to infuse fresh energy, innovation, and accountability into our national defence and intelligence systems,” Idris declared. “The mission is to deliver better results, strengthen coordination among the services, and stamp out terrorism and violent crime in every part of Nigeria.”
He further stated that recent accusations alleging targeted attacks against Christians are unfounded, stressing that the government views every Nigerian life as equally important. He explained that the armed forces operate under strict constitutional and humanitarian standards and that any acts of violence are treated as national security threats rather than religiously motivated conflicts.
The Minister reiterated that Nigeria’s unity and diversity remain central to President Tinubu’s vision for lasting peace and national prosperity. He described the President’s leadership as one driven by evidence-based results, citing improvements in military coordination and intelligence gathering as tangible signs of progress. “The results over the past years, and especially within the last two years of President Tinubu’s leadership, are real and remarkable,” he said.
He assured Nigerians that the administration has shown the political will required to eliminate the remnants of insurgency. According to him, ongoing security operations have recorded major successes in dismantling terrorist networks and recovering territories once controlled by insurgent groups. He maintained that the President has provided unwavering support to the armed forces, ensuring they have both the resources and the moral backing to deliver on their constitutional responsibilities.
While addressing Nigeria’s international partnerships, Idris disclosed that the government is open to collaborating with the United States and other allied nations to consolidate gains in the fight against terrorism. He highlighted that modern warfare demands collaboration in intelligence, technology, and logistics, and that such cooperation would help Nigeria sustain long-term stability and development.
“The Government of Nigeria remains open and willing to work closely with the government of the United States, other friendly nations, and partners, to achieve our shared goal of the complete elimination of terrorism on Nigerian soil,” he stated.
He also underscored that the administration would continue to uphold the rule of law in its approach to internal security. Those found guilty of disrupting public peace, he said, would be made to face justice through lawful and transparent processes.
Idris urged the media and the public to resist misinformation and divisive narratives that could undermine national cohesion. He assured citizens that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is on a steady path to overcoming its security challenges and building a safer and more inclusive nation for all.
As the government strengthens its internal and international partnerships, the Minister emphasized that accountability, innovation, and unity would guide the renewed efforts of the military and security agencies. The restructuring, he said, represents a bold statement of intent from the Tinubu administration to secure the country, protect every citizen, and restore confidence in Nigeria’s national defence capabilities.
