Renewed War Of Words As Soludo And Obi Clash Again Over Political Relevance And Performance Records [VIDEO]

The political rivalry between Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has taken a new turn following another round of verbal attacks that have dominated public discourse. The two prominent politicians, both former governors of the same state, have once again engaged in a heated exchange that has kept political observers talking across Nigeria.

The latest episode began after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the results of the recent governorship election in Anambra State. While speaking to reporters in a viral video, Peter Obi advised Governor Soludo to focus on governance and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra who voted for him. Obi said he was no longer in competition with Soludo and compared their political positions to football leagues, declaring himself as a Champions League player while referring to Soludo as one still playing in the junior league.

According to Obi, “He should concentrate on working for the people to make the state livable. I didn’t contest in the election. I was a Governor 13 years ago. I’m no longer in the league with him. If it’s in football, he is playing junior league while I’ve moved on to the Champions League.” His statement drew applause from his supporters, who hailed him for maintaining composure while subtly taking aim at Soludo’s leadership.

However, the remarks did not sit well with Governor Soludo, who swiftly fired back while addressing members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, at the International Conference Centre, Awka, shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return alongside his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim. Soludo described Obi as a frustrated politician suffering from political idleness and loss of relevance, claiming that he had attempted but failed to dominate Anambra’s political space.

The Governor remarked, “We wanted to coach him on how to play in the Champions League after I had played there, but he continues jumping from one place to another and now has no club. Idleness and serial losses can get into someone’s head at times.” Soludo further alleged that Obi was attempting to imitate the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, by raising another politician’s hand during campaigns, yet could not deliver victory.

He went on to mock Obi’s performance in his home community, claiming that the Labour Party candidate begged his people not to disappoint him during the election but still lost in all four wards. Soludo said, “He was even allowed to win his ward so as not to be disgraced, but despite that, APC still beat him there.”

Soludo accused Obi of destroying the education system during his tenure as governor and hinted that he would one day expose the full extent of Obi’s alleged failures. The Governor said Obi’s desperation to unseat him during the polls was evident, as he moved across local governments and communities campaigning for another candidate, only to be roundly defeated.

Political watchers believe the continued friction between Soludo and Obi reflects a deeper power struggle over the political direction of Anambra and the Southeast. Both men remain influential figures with loyal supporters across party lines, and their constant public altercations have stirred debates about leadership, governance, and political maturity in the region.

Observers say the rivalry, if unchecked, could further polarize Anambra’s political landscape ahead of future elections, as both leaders continue to trade accusations over their records and influence within the state. For now, the verbal duel between Soludo and Obi shows no sign of slowing down, keeping the political stage in Anambra alive with renewed tension and drama.
