Senator Ned Nwoko has come out to clear the air surrounding his highly publicized marriage to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, insisting that he never pursued her for marriage. The Senator, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, stated that Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, personally brought her daughter to him and that the decision to marry did not originate from him.
The billionaire politician made the claim while reacting to widespread criticism over his six-year union with the actress, following a recent social media outburst between the couple. Regina had earlier accused Ned Nwoko of domestic violence and declared she was no longer interested in continuing the marriage. Her revelation set off a wave of outrage online, drawing comments from fans, public figures, and women’s rights advocates across Nigeria.
Nwoko, however, responded to the allegations by accusing the actress of substance abuse and insisting that she should be taken to a rehabilitation center. The back-and-forth between the two created a storm of controversy, reigniting debates about their marriage, which many Nigerians believe began when Regina was still a teenager. Critics condemned the Senator for allegedly marrying her at the age of 17, calling his actions inappropriate and demanding his resignation from the Senate.
Reacting through a statement released by his Communication and Technical Action Team to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nwoko firmly denied the allegations of marrying a minor. He clarified that Regina Daniels was 19 years old when they tied the knot, not 17 as widely speculated.
“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for six years, that means she married at 19 and not 17,” Nwoko explained. “The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage. There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her.”
His statement sought to address growing public concern and criticism over his relationship with the actress, which has been under public scrutiny since its inception. Many Nigerians had long questioned the circumstances surrounding their marriage, describing it as an unequal union between a wealthy politician and a young actress still early in her career.
Observers note that the Senator’s new revelation about Regina’s mother’s involvement could shift public perception, though it has also sparked fresh debate about parental roles and consent in marriages involving young women. Some social commentators argue that the matter raises deeper questions about cultural practices, social responsibility, and the influence of power and wealth in personal relationships.
As the controversy continues, neither Regina Daniels nor her mother has officially responded to Nwoko’s latest claim. Fans of the actress have flooded social media with mixed reactions, with some defending her while others demand that both parties keep their marital issues private.
Despite the public drama, Nwoko maintained that his conscience is clear and that he acted within cultural and legal boundaries. His statement, however, appears to have done little to calm the storm, as Nigerians remain divided over who to believe in this ongoing saga between the Senator and the beloved Nollywood star.
