Modern Women Lack Commitment and Loyalty – Lady Ebelechukwu Nwafor-Orizu

Former Senate President’s wife, Lady Ebelechukwu Odoziaku Nwafor-Orizu,
has expressed concerns over the rising rate of divorce, attributing it to a decline in core marital values among modern women. Speaking to journalists at her residence in Otolo, Nnewi, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, she shared her thoughts on the occasion of International Women’s Day, emphasizing the need for women to embrace commitment and loyalty in marriage.

Lady Nwafor-Orizu stated that in today’s society, many women have abandoned the fundamental principles that sustain marriages. According to her, a lack of fear and an increasingly careless lifestyle under the guise of modernity have contributed to unstable homes. She urged women to uphold marriage as a sacred institution ordained by God and to treat it with respect and dedication.

Highlighting the importance of submission, she insisted that a woman’s willingness to support and honor her husband plays a vital role in sustaining a successful marriage. "A woman should help her husband in all aspects, understand his needs, and avoid negative influences that could bring turmoil into her home," she advised.

Lady Nwafor-Orizu also stressed the significance of encouragement and appreciation in marriage. She advised women to praise their husbands for their efforts, no matter how small, and to refrain from making comparisons with other men. “In front of your children, always portray your husband in a positive light,” she added.

Expressing her disapproval of the growing push for gender equality within marriages, she argued that such ideologies have led to the destruction of many homes. Instead, she encouraged women to apply wisdom in managing their relationships and maintaining harmony within their families.

Beyond marriage, Lady Nwafor-Orizu urged women to prioritize their role in raising their children. She cautioned against entrusting the full responsibility of child-rearing to housemaids, emphasizing the need for mothers to bond with their children, particularly their daughters, to protect them from potential dangers.

"Marriage is not always smooth, but a good woman can make it beautiful by understanding how to win her husband’s heart,” she remarked. She further advised women to prepare good meals for their spouses, remain loyal, and avoid power struggles within their homes.

In conclusion, she encouraged women to be devoted to their marriages and family life, stressing that with patience, respect, and commitment, they can create stable and loving homes.
