The Obidient Movement has clarified that it has not yet endorsed any candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8. This was made known by a member of the Advisory Council of the movement, Mr. Ikenna Azomchine, during a press briefing in Awka.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Azomchine emphasized that the Obidient Movement is currently in the process of structuring its organizational framework for the South East and will officially unveil it soon. According to him, the group remains committed to its core principles of good governance and will carefully assess all aspirants before throwing its support behind any candidate.
No Automatic Endorsements, No Financial Inducements
Addressing speculations and rumors making the rounds, Mr. Azomchine made it clear that the Obidient Movement does not accept monetary inducements from political aspirants. He strongly cautioned those spreading misinformation that certain governorship hopefuls were "paying" the movement for endorsement to desist from such claims, as they are false and misleading.
He further stated that the movement remains independent and will make its decision based on merit. “We are not for sale, and we do not collect money from aspirants. Anyone claiming otherwise is simply spreading falsehoods,” he asserted.
Obidient Movement’s Commitment to Good Governance
Mr. Azomchine reiterated that the primary objective of the Obidient Movement is to ensure that Anambra State gets the best leadership that will bring about development and progress. He assured the public that the movement will meticulously evaluate the track records, manifestos, and governance plans of all aspirants, including the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, before making a decision on who to support.
"We are not in a hurry to endorse any candidate," he explained. "Our focus is on ensuring that the right person, with the capacity to lead and deliver good governance, emerges as governor. When the time comes, we will declare our stance based on the interest of the people, not personal gains."
Organizational Structure to Be Unveiled Soon
As part of its efforts to strengthen its influence in the South East, Mr. Azomchine disclosed that the Obidient Movement is currently finalizing the structuring of its regional organigram. He assured that once the process is completed, it will be formally unveiled to the public, allowing for a clearer understanding of the movement’s operational framework.
This development comes at a crucial time when political parties and aspirants are intensifying their campaigns ahead of the governorship election. The Obidient Movement, which emerged as a significant political force in the 2023 general elections, has continued to play a critical role in shaping political discussions and influencing voter decisions across the country, particularly in the South East.
A Call for Transparency and Accountability
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Azomchine urged all political stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of Anambra people over personal ambitions. He called on aspirants to focus on issue-based campaigns and demonstrate their plans for the development of the state rather than engaging in propaganda and misinformation.
He reassured the public that the movement remains committed to its values of accountability, integrity, and people-centered politics, and will only align with a candidate who shares these ideals.
As the Anambra gubernatorial race gathers momentum, all eyes will be on the Obidient Movement and its eventual decision on which candidate to back, a move that could significantly impact the election outcome.
