During his visit to both institutions on Friday, Obi presented a cheque of N10 million to each college, emphasizing his commitment to healthcare and education—two sectors he believes are essential for the country’s development.
A Boost for Healthcare Education
At the Holy Rosary College of Nursing, Ogbe, Obi handed over the cheque to the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Most Rev. Simeon Nwobi, at the construction site of the college. Addressing church leaders and stakeholders, he commended the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara for its vision in establishing the nursing college. He described the project as a major step toward improving healthcare access and producing well-trained professionals who will contribute to national development.
“My Lords, what you are doing is a great service to our country,” Obi remarked. “This donation is not a favour to you, but a recognition of your efforts in nation-building. I will always support this project because it is about securing a better future for our country.”
Similarly, at the College of Nursing Sciences, Our Lady of Lourdes, Ihiala, Obi presented his donation to the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Miss Anigbo Chisom Mary, in the presence of an enthusiastic crowd of students. Many of them expressed their gratitude for his contribution, acknowledging that the funds would go a long way in improving their learning environment and access to better facilities.
Education and Healthcare: The Pillars of Development
While addressing the students and staff of both institutions, Obi reiterated his belief that quality education and a strong healthcare system are critical to Nigeria’s progress. He stressed that investing in these areas would not only improve the well-being of citizens but also boost economic development.
According to him, Nigeria cannot afford to neglect healthcare and education if it hopes to build a prosperous and secure future. He called on individuals, corporate organizations, and the government to support institutions that train health professionals, as they play a vital role in saving lives and strengthening the country’s health sector.
“I have always said that no nation can grow beyond the level of its education and healthcare. This is why I will continue to invest in these two critical areas, wherever and whenever I can,” Obi affirmed.
A Legacy of Philanthropy
Peter Obi has remained consistent in his support for education and healthcare across the country. Over the years, he has donated to numerous schools, hospitals, and institutions, with a focus on improving infrastructure, learning materials, and access to quality healthcare services.
His latest donation to these two nursing colleges further underscores his commitment to nation-building and his vision for a Nigeria where young people are empowered through quality education and skills training.
As students and staff celebrated the financial support, many called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Obi’s generosity. They expressed hope that his intervention would encourage more investment in the health sector, ultimately leading to a more robust and well-equipped workforce in the country.
A Call to Action
In conclusion, Obi urged Nigerians to look beyond government interventions and contribute in their own ways to the development of society. He emphasized that a collective effort is necessary to tackle the country’s challenges and improve the standard of living for its citizens.
His visit left a strong impression on the students, faculty members, and religious leaders, who described him as a leader truly committed to human capital development. With more investments like this, Nigeria’s healthcare sector stands a better chance of delivering quality services to its people.
