Fan Frenzy Gone Wrong: Davido Devotee Hospitalized After Tattoo Tribute Turns Tragic [VIDEO]

Lagos, Nigeria – April 9, 2025

In a dramatic twist to what was meant to be a show of love and loyalty, a Nigerian man has found himself in a hospital bed after getting a permanent tattoo of Afrobeats superstar Davido’s new album 5ive. The act, which was meant to honor the singer’s latest musical release, has sparked a wave of reactions online—ranging from concern to criticism and even ridicule.

The yet-to-be-identified man, described as a diehard fan of Davido, reportedly became obsessed with making a grand gesture ever since the 5ive album was announced. According to a friend of the man who shared the story on X (formerly Twitter), the fan had frequently expressed his desire to do “something big” to support the singer.

“Ever since Davido announced his album, he kept saying he wanted to do something for him,” the friend tweeted. “Yesterday, I got a call saying he had gone to get a tattoo. Look at what he did to himself.”

The fan reportedly tattooed the entire album cover on a large portion of his body, but what followed was not admiration or applause. A video that quickly made the rounds on social media showed the young man lying on a hospital bed, seemingly in pain, while a nurse tended to him. The exact cause of the hospitalization remains unclear, but speculation points to complications possibly arising from the tattoo procedure or an infection.

While details remain sketchy, social media has been ablaze with commentary. Some users believe the man’s extreme move was an elaborate attempt to grab Davido’s attention and, potentially, his generosity. Others weren’t so kind.

These ones dey use style dray Davido attention, them want make he give them money🤣 good scope,” wrote one user, @yeatybabe.

See format, people are dramatic tbh, I thought it was a comedy at first,” commented @jeje_textile.

The responses quickly turned sharp as some users questioned the motive and authenticity of the act.

Make una kuku beg money. Which kind thing be this? This look staged naa. Nawa for una Ooh,” said @bisigold_blog.

Another user, @Ibisoq, chimed in with a more understanding—yet still skeptical—take: “Him mind be say Davido go see am help am, so make Davido try see am help am, e no easy to carry out this plan.

Others weren’t as forgiving. @Theyenvyherrrr slammed the act outright: “People just do mumu things all in the name of fan love. Shey Davido don go check am for hospital bayii after this stupid act? SMH.

Perhaps the most scathing came from @sexy_tee236, who wrote: “If not that death shouldn’t be wished upon someone nii, I for say make you die. Who sent you message??

As of now, there has been no official comment from Davido or his management regarding the incident. The artist, known for his philanthropy and strong fan base, has a history of supporting fans, but whether this bold gesture will earn a response remains uncertain.

While fan devotion is not new in the world of celebrity culture, this episode shines a spotlight on the sometimes dangerous extremes people will go to in order to show loyalty—or get noticed. For now, the fan remains hospitalized, and the internet continues to buzz, waiting to see if Davido will break his silence.
