Ukachukwu Highlights Job Creation, Infrastructure Footprint in Push for Anambra Governorship
As the race for Anambra State’s governorship gathers momentum ahead of the November 8 election, Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, is positioning himself as a candidate of action and results—pointing to years of private-sector-driven development across infrastructure, industry, and education as his core credentials.
Speaking during a recent appearance on Sunday Politics, a popular political program on Channels Television, Ukachukwu emphasized that his candidacy is buoyed by a legacy of concrete contributions to Anambra’s growth, particularly in areas where many other politicians only make promises.
“The APC in Anambra is determined to win this election, and they’ve rallied around me because I’ve shown—through actions, not words—that I can deliver,” Ukachukwu asserted during the interview. “I have built roads, I have created jobs, I have invested in education—not because I was in government, but because I believed my people deserved better.”
Ukachukwu, a businessman and philanthropist, painted a picture of a candidate who has been actively involved in uplifting the state long before he threw his hat into the political ring. According to him, few can rival his developmental footprint in Anambra.
“I don’t think there’s anybody, per kilometre of road, that has done as much as I have done in this state,” he declared. “I have constructed numerous roads, even naming some after notable individuals, and none of that was done under any government contract. I did it simply because I could and because it was needed.”
Beyond infrastructure, Ukachukwu said his work in job creation and entrepreneurship distinguishes him from the rest of the pack vying for the governorship seat. He revealed that he currently owns 12 operational industries within the state, noting that he was once the second largest employer of labour in Anambra, aside from the government itself.
Among his investments is the Radisson Hotel in Awka, a prominent hospitality project, and an expansive manufacturing facility also situated in the capital. “These aren’t concepts or proposals—they are up and running, creating jobs every day,” he added.
Ukachukwu also drew attention to his long-standing contributions to education, particularly in improving access for the underprivileged. Through his scholarship schemes and support initiatives, he claims to have enabled over a thousand students—both from wealthy and humble backgrounds—to attend private universities across Nigeria.
“In one of those institutions alone, over 250 students have benefitted from our sponsorships,” he said, adding that he was recently honoured as a “pillar” by a private university in recognition of his efforts. “I have always believed that education shouldn’t be a privilege of the wealthy alone.”
In addressing political criticisms that have trailed his candidacy, Ukachukwu took time to clarify his position on the contentious issue of political godfatherism. Some had misconstrued his past comments as self-aggrandizing, but he said his words were taken out of context.
“What I meant was that I have supported every single person who has ever become governor in Anambra—financially, morally, politically,” he explained. “I’ve never been on the sidelines. I’ve always believed in helping people rise, not in controlling them.”
Ukachukwu clinched the APC gubernatorial ticket on April 5 with an overwhelming victory, securing far more votes than any of his rivals. He garnered a commanding lead over Valentine Ozigbo, who received 67 votes, while Edozie Madu and Johnbosco Onunkwo came in with 8 and 26 votes, respectively.
With the November election on the horizon, Ukachukwu and his team are projecting confidence that the APC, often seen as a distant player in the state’s politics, may finally have a shot at the top seat—thanks, he says, to a campaign powered not by rhetoric, but by results.
As he put it: “This is not about what I will do—it’s about what I have already done. And if given the chance, Anambra will get even more.”
