Shocking Patricide in Lagos: 24-Year-Old Allegedly Murders, Dismembers Father [VIDEO]

Lagos State Police Arrest Man Over Brutal Killing and Dismemberment of His Father

A 24-year-old man, identified as Sowe Temidayo Igbekele, is currently in police custody following his arrest over the alleged killing and dismemberment of his 60-year-old father, Babatunde Sowe Kayode. The shocking crime, which has sent shockwaves through the Oshodi community, took place at their shared residence on Igbehinadun Street, a densely populated area in Lagos.

Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred on Thursday, April 17, 2025, around 9:00 a.m., with the Lagos State Police Command receiving a distress report just days later. A relative, Temidayo Akinola, residing at the same address, raised the alarm and reported the grisly discovery to officers at the Alakara Police Division.

Preliminary findings indicate that the motive behind the heinous act remains unclear, although investigators are exploring several angles, including possible mental health concerns, financial disputes, and strained family dynamics. The suspect, reportedly living under the same roof as the victim, vanished shortly after the crime was committed, raising suspicions of foul play.

Law enforcement officers wasted no time in launching a manhunt. A team of homicide detectives was promptly dispatched to the scene to assess the situation. The crime scene was cordoned off, meticulously photographed, and combed for evidence. According to police sources familiar with the investigation, the deceased's dismembered remains were recovered and have since been deposited at a public morgue for a formal autopsy.

The arrest was made three days later on Sunday, April 20, after the suspect was traced to a hideout still within the Oshodi area. His capture, police say, was the result of coordinated efforts between surveillance teams and local informants who had reportedly seen him moving suspiciously around the neighborhood.

Residents of Igbehinadun Street were left in disbelief as news of the crime spread. Many described Babatunde Sowe Kayode as a calm, reserved man who kept to himself and had little involvement in neighborhood disputes. “Nobody saw this coming. It's horrifying to think a son could do such a thing to his father,” one resident, who asked not to be named, told reporters.

Meanwhile, police are urging the public to remain calm while assuring that justice will be served. A spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command emphasized that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court as soon as all necessary findings are concluded.

Mental health experts have weighed in on the incident, highlighting the need for deeper public awareness and support systems for young adults grappling with psychological challenges. While it remains speculative whether mental illness played a role in this particular case, they stress the importance of addressing early warning signs within family settings before situations escalate into violence.

As forensic experts continue to examine the scene and gather more evidence, investigators are also looking into the suspect’s recent behavior, possible triggers, and any prior history of conflict with his father. Friends and extended family members are being questioned to piece together what might have led to such a disturbing turn of events.

This tragedy adds to a growing list of domestic violence-related incidents in Lagos, a concern that has prompted renewed calls for stronger intervention and community engagement mechanisms to prevent future occurrences. Civil society organizations are also expected to get involved, offering support to affected family members and calling for justice.

The story continues to unfold as authorities dig deeper into one of the most disturbing criminal cases the state has witnessed in recent times. For now, a community mourns the loss of one of its own, as the full weight of the law begins to close in on the accused.
