In a decisive step toward redefining 21st-century education, Anambra State has launched an ambitious Smart Schools initiative powered by cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies. Spearheaded by the forward-thinking administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the initiative aims to embed intelligent, tech-driven learning into the very fabric of the state's educational ecosystem.

The state government has partnered with Edves, a leading Nigerian EdTech company, to transform the academic experience in 22 pilot smart schools—one in each of Anambra’s local government areas. At the heart of this transformative agenda lies a unique fusion of AI, data analytics, and project-based learning (PBL), designed to empower both teachers and students with tools for the future.

According to official statements, Edves is not your conventional digital learning platform. The company is introducing dynamic solutions that include AI-driven personalised learning paths, adaptive lesson planning, and predictive analytics that monitor student progress in real-time. This tech-forward approach ensures that each learner receives customised attention, while teachers gain deeper insights into student development.

Project-Based Learning (PBL), a core pillar of the initiative, is being used to instil critical thinking, creativity, and real-world problem-solving abilities. In these AI-enabled classrooms, students are not just absorbing information—they are applying knowledge, collaborating, and innovating through hands-on projects.

Moreover, the smart school infrastructure is set to revolutionize how educational stakeholders operate. Through real-time assessment of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, teachers can adjust their strategies more effectively, while policymakers receive a data-rich dashboard to drive meaningful reforms. The initiative also boasts automated enrolment systems, digital attendance monitoring, intelligent scheduling for lessons, and even AI-supported emotional wellness tracking.

Dimeji Falana, Co-founder and CEO of Edves, highlighted the broader vision behind the partnership. “This initiative is more than automation. It equips educators and students with inquiry-driven learning environments while maintaining data integrity and inclusiveness,” he said.

From math and science to vocational and special needs education, the Smart Schools are leveraging over 170 interactive simulations to foster STEM excellence and deeper subject engagement. These simulations make abstract concepts tangible and spark curiosity in learners.

The AI system also extends beyond the school walls. With integrated features for real-time parent-school communication, families can receive instant updates on student performance, progress reports, and tailored learning plans. This loop strengthens parental involvement and encourages a unified approach to child development.

Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, Managing Director of the Anambra State ICT Agency, praised the governor’s commitment to innovation. “The Smart Schools are a living embodiment of Governor Soludo’s vision—to position Anambra as a technology-powered knowledge hub. This is not just educational reform; it is a revolution,” Agbata affirmed.

Crucially, the Smart Schools are not being built for show—they are designed to prepare students for a world increasingly shaped by AI and automation. With skills in collaboration, inquiry, digital literacy, and emotional intelligence, Anambra's learners are being groomed for global competitiveness.
