Anambra Bans Cash Payments for State Revenue as Government Prioritizes Transparency and Family Values

The Anambra State Government has taken a bold step toward curbing corruption and promoting transparency by abolishing all forms of cash payments for its revenue collections. This sweeping directive, which came into full effect on Monday, May 26, was unanimously adopted by the ninth Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) during a recent session.

To counter persistent issues of extortion and fraudulent practices in the revenue system, the government has mandated that all taxes, levies, and related charges be handled through clearly defined, non-cash channels. All revenue items payable to the state will be publicly listed to prevent arbitrary collections and to empower citizens with the right information.

Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, emphasized that this landmark policy shift is part of a wider framework aimed at ensuring public trust and financial accountability. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any attempts at illegal cash collections to law enforcement authorities. According to him, the policy is more than a technological adjustment—it’s a cultural pivot toward a more ethical, inclusive public service environment.

Transparency is not the only objective guiding the new direction of the Soludo administration. ANSEC reiterated its commitment to inclusive development by approving multiple community-based construction projects, though the details remain under wraps for now. The council stressed that collaboration between the government and local communities remains essential for safeguarding these investments and ensuring their long-term viability.

A standout feature of the council’s recent deliberations was the official endorsement of the Solution Fun City as the venue for the 2025 Children’s Day celebration. Positioned as a beacon of Governor Charles Soludo’s transformative vision, the leisure facility is set to host hundreds of children in a day filled with excitement, bonding, and celebration. The event, themed “Leisure Park’s Excursion,” promises to be an unforgettable experience that highlights the importance of family values and collective joy.

Solution Fun City is no ordinary recreational ground. Billed as the largest leisure park in Africa, it boasts a water park, an amusement park, a family fun centre, and an upscale country club. Designed as both a tourism magnet and a public morale booster, the park serves as a tangible manifestation of Soludo’s ambition to position Anambra as the Dubai-Taiwan Silicon Valley of Nigeria—a place where innovation, business, and culture seamlessly converge.

Commissioner Mefor heralded the park as a milestone achievement in Soludo’s administration, describing it as one of the many “life-changing projects” already delivered under the current leadership. “Evidence now abounds,” he said, adding that the Children’s Day event at the park will not only entertain but also demonstrate the government’s investment in the social well-being of its citizens.

More than just a leisure facility, the Solution Fun City is framed as a symbol of a broader strategy: to reimagine governance as both functional and human-centered. By prioritizing digital payments and eliminating cash from public revenue channels, the state is aligning itself with global best practices. Simultaneously, through infrastructural investments like the leisure park, the government is anchoring its vision in experiences that directly enrich the lives of its people.

As Anambra continues to stride confidently toward a future defined by innovation and integrity, the state’s dual focus on technological modernization and community welfare suggests a model of governance that other states might soon be inspired to emulate.
