"Expose the Traitors Within": Obi Demands Treason Charges Against Security Agents Aiding Boko Haram

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called for immediate and decisive action against security personnel allegedly collaborating with Boko Haram insurgents. Reacting to a troubling claim by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Obi said the reported infiltration of Nigeria’s armed forces and political class by terrorist informants is not only alarming but tantamount to treason.

The outspoken former governor of Anambra State condemned the alleged betrayal within the military ranks, stressing that no effort to defeat insurgency can succeed while traitors remain embedded in the country’s defense system. He insisted that anyone—regardless of title or office—found aiding terrorists must face swift and transparent prosecution.

Governor Zulum had publicly stated that some senior military officers were working as informants for Boko Haram, a claim Obi described as both “devastating” and “a moral collapse.” According to Obi, this revelation confirms longstanding fears among Nigerians that terrorism is not only an external threat but is also being fueled by internal sabotage.

"Such an admission is not just a reflection of security failure; it exposes a betrayal that is tearing at the very fabric of our nation," Obi stated. "We are not simply under attack from outside forces. The greater danger lies with those who, under the guise of service, are actively sabotaging our country’s future."

He praised Governor Zulum for speaking up despite the risks, noting that few public officials have had the courage to confront such uncomfortable truths. Obi warned against the tendency to ignore or bury such revelations, stating that silence and inaction only embolden enemies hiding within government structures.

Obi emphasized that justice must be blind to rank or influence. “Whether you are a general or a politician, if you are found to be protecting terrorists or leaking intelligence, you are a traitor to the Nigerian people,” he declared. “Our institutions must not harbor those who undermine the very mission they were created to uphold.”

He further challenged the federal government to respond with more than rhetoric. “This is not the time for carefully worded statements or empty promises. Nigerians want to see arrests. We want to see trials. We want to know that no one is above the law.”

Pointing to the heavy toll terrorism has taken on lives and communities across Nigeria, Obi expressed deep frustration that while citizens continue to die, some officials are allegedly profiting from conflict or prioritizing self-interest over national duty.

He called on the government to launch a full-scale investigation into Zulum’s claims and ensure that any collaborators are flushed out of the system. “The blood of innocent Nigerians demands accountability. We must no longer tolerate a culture where whistleblowers are ignored and traitors are shielded,” he said.

Obi’s remarks reflect growing public outrage over the persistent insecurity plaguing Nigeria, particularly in the North-East. Despite repeated military offensives, Boko Haram and other insurgent groups have continued to launch deadly attacks, displacing millions and destabilizing communities.

Concluding his statement, Obi urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and united in demanding a country free from internal betrayal. “Our fight against terrorism must begin with truth. And the truth is: we cannot defeat the enemy outside if we protect the enemy within.”
