Two brothers from Anambra State, now established professionals in the United States, have made a remarkable gesture to honor their late father, Dr. Julius Asokwu Sea, fondly remembered as Onowu New Jersey. Julius Ezeani Asokwu Sea Jr., a chartered accountant, and Nexus Uzoma Asokwu Sea, a distinguished legal practitioner, have donated over ₦10 million alongside six motorcycles to support the Ifitedunu Vigilante Security Outfit in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
The donation package also includes ₦2 million specifically allocated for fueling and maintaining the motorcycles over several months, ensuring sustained operational capacity for the local security outfit. The ceremony, held at the Ifitedunu Town Hall, was attended by community leaders, relatives, and dignitaries who hailed the brothers’ commitment to community development.
Dr. Francis Asokwu Sea, the donors’ uncle, described the empowerment initiative as a fitting tribute to their father’s legacy—a man known for his humility, leadership, empathy, and unwavering service to his people. “This initiative reflects the spirit of our late brother, whose values continue to inspire us,” he said.
The brothers extended their generosity beyond security support. They handed out ₦50,000 each to 50 elderly residents aged 70 and above, provided cash gifts to participants of a local football tournament, and offered assistance to farmers and traders in the area, reinforcing their dedication to uplifting various facets of community life.
Representing the family, Julius and Nexus emphasized that the donation was more than just financial aid. “It is a tribute to our late father. Although ten years have passed since his departure, his generosity continues to inspire our commitment to Ifitedunu and its people,” they remarked. They also highlighted the importance of the motorcycles in boosting the vigilante group’s efficiency, enabling quicker responses to emergencies and distress signals within the community.
Prof. Stephen Ufoaroh, President General of the Ifitedunu Town Union, received the items on behalf of the community. He expressed profound gratitude and stressed how the brothers’ actions resonate with the town’s vision. “This gesture perfectly aligns with our dream of a thriving Ifitedunu, where our sons and daughters worldwide unite to drive progress,” he stated.
Acknowledgment was also given to key supporters who contributed to the success of the initiative. The family extended warm appreciation to Mrs. Justina Uche Onwubuya and her family for their ₦1 million donation, and to Winifred Emenaka for her ₦500,000 contribution. These donations, together with the family’s ₦500,000 input, formed the ₦2 million fund dedicated to fueling and maintaining the motorcycles.
The event was further enriched by the presence of Rev. Fr. Victor Igwegbe, village chairmen, and other notable personalities. Special commendation was given to Ambassador Ike Onyegbu, Chairman of Umuanugo Village, whose coordination efforts helped bring the project to fruition.
In recognition of their impactful contributions, the brothers were recently bestowed chieftaincy titles by HRH Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno, Ezedunu of Ifitedunu. Julius Ezeani Sea was honored with the title Ajie Ifitedunu, while Nexus Uzoma Sea was named Onwa N’etili Ora Ifitedunu—titles that celebrate their leadership and dedication to their hometown.
Julius, also the co-founder of Silicon Africa and a financial technology strategist, along with Nexus, a partner at the prestigious law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP and founder of the social empowerment initiative Naija We Can, pledged to continue fostering sustainable development and grassroots empowerment.
Their late father’s legacy remains the beacon guiding their efforts to give back, ensuring that his spirit of generosity and service lives on through meaningful community support and development.
