Shocking Birth Incident: Baby Dumped in Gutter After Teen Delivers Alone in Anambra

 

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Anambra State on May 22, as a 19-year-old new mother and her newborn son were rushed to the hospital after a traumatic and reportedly secret birth took a devastating turn.

The young woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, had concealed her pregnancy from her family, giving birth alone in a house devoid of support or medical assistance. With no one around, what should have been a moment of life and hope descended quickly into a scene of blood and confusion.

According to eyewitness accounts shared by Facebook user Chinenye Henrietta, the teenager allegedly inflicted a deep wound on the baby’s throat shortly after birth and placed the injured newborn in a roadside gutter. However, a vigilant child who saw her actions alerted neighbors. Residents quickly responded, rescuing the baby and tracing the mother back to her residence, where she was discovered alone and bleeding profusely.

Both mother and infant were immediately taken to a hospital. The full extent of their injuries remains unclear, but reports suggest they are both receiving medical attention.

While some residents are convinced the stabbing was a deliberate act of harm—possibly an attempt to discard the baby out of fear or panic—others close to the situation paint a more tragic and accidental picture. One version of the story claims the teenager, in a frantic attempt to sever the placenta without medical tools or knowledge, unintentionally injured both herself and the baby. In this account, the sharp object used allegedly slipped, causing a gash to her genital area and slashing the baby’s throat.

Authorities have yet to make any arrests, and no official statement has been released by the police. The conflicting narratives continue to spark debate, with members of the community torn between sympathy and outrage.
