The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr. John Nwosu, has expressed confidence in the ongoing political coalition set to challenge the status quo and potentially reshape Nigeria's political future by 2027.
He made the statement on Sunday in Awka while addressing journalists after a thanksgiving service held at the St Faith Anglican Cathedral. The event was organized by his running mate, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, to mark the official commencement of the party’s gubernatorial campaign in Anambra.
Nwosu said he believes the coalition has gained strong momentum and will significantly influence national politics. He described the group as a formidable force, gradually absorbing members from other political parties who are dissatisfied with the current state of affairs across the country.
"The signs are clear," he declared. "Every day, people are resigning from their parties and joining this coalition. Those who truly want change are closing shop in their former parties and coming to ADC. What other proof does anyone need?"
While affirming his loyalty to the ADC as his political platform, Nwosu clarified that his candidacy was not solely dependent on the coalition. He emphasized that his association with the ADC predates coalition talks, asserting his longstanding belief in the party’s vision and structure.
“It would be wrong to say I’m relying on the coalition to win. I became part of ADC before any talk of alliances began. But we must agree that Nigeria needs to be rescued. If coalition is the way, then we must embrace it. The goal is to salvage this country from collapse,” he explained.
The candidate positioned the upcoming Anambra governorship election as a strategic testing ground for the strength and influence of the coalition. He said the election presents a chance to demonstrate the viability of the movement and its potential to usher in a new political order in Nigeria.
Nwosu directed sharp criticism at the current administration of Governor Charles Soludo, accusing it of failing to address core issues affecting Anambra citizens. He cited insecurity, poor economic management, and a harsh tax regime as key areas where the government has underperformed.
“Everyone can see that Anambra is not working. From the burdensome tax policies to the worsening insecurity, the people are suffering. The so-called ‘aka odo’ tax collectors are harassing our people daily. This is not the kind of leadership we deserve,” he said.
On his own plans for the state, Nwosu promised to introduce a tech-driven governance system, with a focus on using information and communication technology to solve pressing security and administrative challenges. Drawing from his experience as the head of an ICT firm, Jetlink, he said he is prepared to lead a digital transformation of the state’s public sector.
“I’m not new to solutions. I run a technology company, and I understand how to deploy digital tools to solve problems. Tackling insecurity with technology is not rocket science. Within six months of my government, insecurity will become a thing of the past,” Nwosu declared with confidence.
He unveiled the SHEEMS model, a core component of his manifesto, as the strategic framework through which his government intends to restore order, efficiency, and prosperity to Anambra. While he did not elaborate on the acronym, he assured the public that the model is designed to deliver tangible results in key sectors.
Nwosu’s remarks appear to be aimed at positioning himself not only as a credible alternative to the current administration but also as a key player in the broader national movement to reform Nigeria’s political and governance landscape.
The ADC candidate’s tone was a blend of urgency and hope, capturing both the frustration of citizens and the promise of renewal. His comments come at a time when political realignments are gaining pace across Nigeria, with talks of new alliances and coalitions becoming more prominent as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
Observers believe that the upcoming governorship election in Anambra could serve as a litmus test for these emerging coalitions and provide a glimpse into the country’s political trajectory in the years ahead. As the campaign season intensifies, Nwosu and his team are expected to push their message of change, technology, and accountable leadership to every corner of the state.
