Reality television star and former Big Brother Naija housemate Anita Natasha Akide, widely known as Tacha, has hinted at a bold new direction in her public life. During a revealing conversation with renowned media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Tacha disclosed her growing interest in politics and her passion for addressing the systemic issues in her home state of Rivers.
Throughout the interview, her tone was assertive and impassioned, reflecting not just frustration but also a genuine desire to influence change. Tacha pointed out the glaring contrast between the development in states like Lagos and Abuja and the stagnation she perceives in Rivers. Her observations, drawn from personal experience and ongoing engagements, paint a picture of a state brimming with potential that remains grossly underutilized.
Growing up in Port Harcourt, Tacha experienced firsthand the challenges faced by the people of Rivers State, particularly the youth. She spoke about the abundance of raw talent and energy waiting to be harnessed. According to her, the government has not done enough to tap into the state’s resources, both human and natural. That failure, she says, has left many young people discouraged and directionless.
“When I look at other states like Abuja and Lagos, and I see how far they’ve come, and with the potential Rivers State has, they’re not trying to exploit it,” she said, clearly emotional. “It’s just very disappointing because there are so many youths, so many talents there, so many things that if the government can see light into, a lot can happen.”
Rather than limiting her voice to social media or public criticism, Tacha is considering taking the next step. According to her, being on the sidelines and pointing fingers is not enough anymore. She believes that true change only comes through active participation, and for that reason, she is preparing to step into the political arena.
She was candid about her preparations, stressing the importance of not rushing to publicize her plans until they are concrete. Tacha said she would feel more comfortable disclosing the full extent of her political vision once she is at least 70 percent ready. “It is something I’m working on. I’ll have to make it 70% done before I can talk about it,” she said. “Because it does not make sense granting interviews like this, talking about the government without being involved.”
Though she stopped short of declaring any particular political office she intends to contest for, her body language and choice of words strongly suggest that Tacha is not treating this as a fleeting interest. Rather, it appears to be a serious shift in focus, driven by a desire to serve and empower.
Beyond politics, Tacha is also channeling her energy into record-breaking initiatives. In an ambitious move, she plans to attempt a new world record by doing makeup for 150 people within a 24-hour period. This endeavor is not only a testament to her drive but also a way of celebrating and uplifting an industry she’s passionate about. The challenge, if successful, would place her in the Guinness World Records, adding another dimension to her already dynamic persona.
Her fans, often called the “Titans,” have expressed excitement and support for both her political aspirations and her record-breaking goal. Many have taken to social media to commend her sense of purpose and applaud her for thinking beyond entertainment.
Tacha has often been a polarizing figure, known for her confidence and outspoken nature. However, her recent declarations suggest a deepening of character and a commitment to more than personal fame. Her willingness to embrace politics and her desire to spark real change in her community reflect an evolving public image.
While the reality star is still working behind the scenes to firm up her plans, her message is already loud and clear: Tacha is ready to do more than just talk. She’s preparing to act, to lead, and to inspire.
If she follows through on her vision, she could become one of the few Nigerian celebrities to transition successfully from entertainment to governance. For Rivers State, and perhaps for Nigerian youth more broadly, that shift could mark the beginning of a much-needed transformation.
