Yul Edochie Faces Online Backlash Over Hulk Hogan Tribute as Critics Recall Controversial Remarks on Son's Death

 

Nollywood actor and director Yul Edochie has come under intense criticism after his recent tribute to late American wrestler Hulk Hogan. His Instagram post, which was meant to honor the wrestling legend, sparked outrage among fans and social media users who questioned the sincerity of his grief.

The wrestling world was left mourning on Wednesday following reports that Terry Bollea, famously known as Hulk Hogan, passed away at the age of 71. He reportedly suffered cardiac arrest, prompting a wave of condolences from fans, celebrities, and fellow wrestlers worldwide.

Yul Edochie joined the global tributes by posting a message on his official Instagram account. He shared a photo of Hogan and wrote:
“This one pain. What a life. He was our childhood hero. Rest well, Legendary Hulk Hogan.”

What would typically be seen as a heartfelt tribute quickly turned into a social media storm, with many users accusing the actor of hypocrisy and emotional insensitivity. The core of their anger lies in Yul’s controversial reaction following the tragic passing of his teenage son earlier in the year. Instead of sharing sorrow, Yul had publicly declared the year of his son's death as his best year ever, a statement that many found deeply offensive and hurtful.

One user, posting under the name Orikoejiro, commented bitterly:

Another, yvonnnash, pointed out the contradiction between Yul’s actions and his previous criticisms of others:
“You criticised people for posting others only when they’re dead. Now you’re doing the same? Uncle Tom died the other day, you didn’t post him, but here you are.”

The backlash did not stop there. Other users continued to express outrage over what they perceive as selective empathy from the actor. A user identified as Mmachy48 referred to him sarcastically as “Obasi co husband,” suggesting his behavior continues to tarnish his public image.

Some comments were especially brutal. Onyijulia lashed out with strong words:
“Anu😏 e pain you? But you declared the year you lost your young chap your best year eeh 🙄 tufia!!”

Similarly, Ifyfinebaby spared no words in condemning the actor:
“Efulefu idiat 😮 Phoolish anumanu 😮 You didn't mourn the son of your youth instead You declared it your best year. Infact zombie 🧟‍♂️🤣 is better than you. Ewu Congo.”

This is not the first time Yul Edochie has faced heavy backlash for his public statements and personal choices. Over the past year, his name has remained a trending topic due to controversies ranging from his decision to take a second wife, to his frequent spiritual declarations and political opinions. The actor, who once enjoyed a strong fan base as the son of veteran actor Pete Edochie, has seen a growing number of critics questioning his moral compass and public persona.

Although the passing of Hulk Hogan was undeniably a significant loss to the world of sports entertainment, many argue that public figures should tread carefully when sharing tributes, especially when their own past actions remain fresh in the public's memory.

So far, Yul Edochie has not responded to the criticism or offered further clarification regarding his post. Whether he chooses to address the backlash or remain silent, the recent incident adds another layer to the ongoing tension between the actor and his audience.
