Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has opened up on an emotional moment that brought him to tears, revealing how the sight of underdevelopment and neglect in some parts of the state moved him deeply. The governor, who is seeking reelection under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), shared his experience during the party’s campaign rally in Anambra East, recounting how the poor condition of roads and absence of essential social amenities in Enugu Ukwu and Aguleri communities left him overwhelmed.
Addressing the crowd, Soludo narrated his firsthand experience during a visit to the remote parts of the state. He described how the condition of roads was so terrible that he and his entourage spent nearly one and a half hours struggling to reach the community. According to him, what he saw that day mirrored years of neglect and suffering faced by residents who had long been cut off from basic infrastructure and government presence.
He recalled how an elderly man in Enugu Otu approached him, pleading for a tarred road that would link the community to other parts of the state. The governor said it was that moment that stirred a deep sense of responsibility and compassion in him. The situation became more emotional when he realized that beyond bad roads, the residents also lacked access to healthcare, electricity, and clean water.
During his visit, Soludo took time to engage with the people and listen to their complaints. He noted that school children lined up along the roads holding cardboard signs listing their community’s needs. Many of the signs highlighted issues such as lack of seats, leaking roofs, shortage of teachers, and the absence of basic learning facilities. The sincerity of their pleas and the innocence of their voices, according to him, pierced his heart and brought him to tears in public.
He said the experience left a lasting impression on him and strengthened his resolve to transform rural communities across Anambra. For Soludo, the tears shed that day were not a sign of weakness but a moment of truth that shaped his leadership focus. He emphasized that every part of Anambra, regardless of terrain or location, deserves equal attention and development.
Reflecting on the progress made since that emotional encounter, the governor expressed joy that the narrative in Enugu Ukwu and Aguleri has changed significantly. During a more recent visit, he observed major improvements, including the installation of solar-powered boreholes providing clean water, the extension of power lines to some areas, and the establishment of a fully equipped general hospital with medical personnel and doctors on duty.
Soludo noted that the difference between his first and second visits was striking. The same children who once stood along the dusty road with placards listing their community’s problems were now seen dancing joyfully to welcome him. The transformation, he said, symbolizes the power of hope, commitment, and purposeful leadership.
He used the story as an illustration to drive home a broader message about the challenges of governance, particularly in areas with difficult terrain where infrastructural projects demand huge financial investment. According to him, some parts of Anambra are more expensive to develop because of their landscape, but that should never be an excuse to abandon the people living there. His philosophy, he stressed, is centered on giving hope and creating opportunities for every citizen, regardless of where they live.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to ensure that no community is left behind in the state’s development agenda. He promised that if reelected, his government would consolidate on the gains already achieved and expand infrastructural projects across all local government areas. Soludo assured the people that his leadership remains people-oriented and focused on inclusive growth.
Speaking further, he encouraged residents to keep faith with APGA, describing it as a homegrown political movement that truly represents the identity and aspirations of Anambra people. He said the party’s foundation was built on service, transparency, and development, and that his government would continue to uphold those values.
According to him, the journey toward a prosperous and modern Anambra is one that requires collective effort, patience, and determination. He appealed for unity among citizens and urged them to participate actively in the upcoming governorship election. Soludo emphasized that continuity in governance is crucial for the sustainability of ongoing projects and for building on the achievements already recorded.
He also highlighted some of his administration’s accomplishments, which include road rehabilitation across major towns, improved security, educational reforms, and the expansion of healthcare facilities. He noted that despite economic challenges, his government has managed to deliver tangible results that are visible to the people.
The event in Anambra East drew a large crowd of party supporters, traditional leaders, and community representatives who came to show solidarity and express appreciation for the developmental strides recorded in their areas. Many residents commended the governor for his accessibility and sincerity, saying his story reflects genuine empathy for the struggles of ordinary citizens.
As the rally ended, Soludo reiterated that leadership, for him, is not about power but about service to humanity. He said his tears in Enugu Ukwu and Aguleri were a reminder of why he sought public office in the first place, to bring real change and restore hope to communities that have been forgotten for too long. He concluded by assuring the people that Anambra’s future is bright and that the journey to a greater state has already begun.
