Residents of Onitsha witnessed a show of gratitude and renewed political commitment as members of the Agwuzani family from Umuaroli publicly declared their unflinching support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo ahead of the November 8 governorship election. The family’s declaration followed what they described as the governor’s uncommon intervention in helping them reclaim 75.5 hectares of ancestral land that had been in dispute for nearly two decades, and his broader developmental achievements across Anambra State.
During a media briefing held in Awka, the family’s spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Ogoazi, recounted their long struggle to secure ownership of their land, explaining how years of litigation and encroachment had left them frustrated. According to him, the family’s battle over the expansive land parcel had dragged through the courts for nineteen years, only for trespassers to emerge even after a favorable judgment had been delivered.
Ogoazi stated that Governor Soludo’s direct intervention was what finally brought closure to the matter. He said the governor ensured that justice prevailed by preventing further encroachment, restoring the family’s full rights to the property, and putting an end to what he called “a long season of oppression and uncertainty.” He noted that since the governor’s involvement, the Agwuzani family has enjoyed peace of mind and renewed faith in the rule of law.
Expressing appreciation, Ogoazi commended Governor Soludo for what he termed a rare display of leadership that combines firmness with fairness. He described the governor as a visionary administrator whose policies have redefined governance in Anambra, particularly through initiatives that directly impact ordinary citizens. He pointed out that the governor’s performance had convinced the family to stand firmly behind him in the upcoming election.
According to Ogoazi, “Governor Soludo has not only settled a long-standing land issue that tormented our family for years, but he has also proven that he is a leader who listens and acts decisively. His commitment to justice and community development gives us confidence that Anambra is on the right path.”
Beyond the land recovery, the Agwuzani family praised the governor for his efforts in revitalizing public infrastructure across the state, particularly the restoration of pipe-borne water in Onitsha after a prolonged 25-year drought. The family revealed that the Onitsha Water Works, built on land originally donated by their ancestors to the state government, had been abandoned for decades until the Soludo administration revived it.
Ogoazi explained that the revival of the water project has brought immense relief to residents of Onitsha North and Onitsha South Local Government Areas, where families had long depended on private boreholes and water vendors. He described the return of running water to homes and public facilities as one of the most impactful achievements of the Soludo administration.
He said, “Our family is proud that the land we gave for public service many years ago is now being used for the benefit of our people again. For over two decades, we lived without public water supply, and today, under Governor Soludo, we can turn on our taps and have clean water. That alone is enough reason to stand with him.”
The family further lauded the governor for his holistic approach to governance, noting that his projects in road construction, education, digital innovation, and environmental management have improved living standards across the state. They described him as a results-oriented leader whose focus on community development, inclusivity, and accountability has restored public trust in government.
Ogoazi emphasized that the Agwuzani family will not only vote for Governor Soludo but will also mobilize the wider Onitsha community to ensure his re-election. He revealed plans by the family to embark on grassroots sensitization campaigns, encouraging residents to support continuity in governance for sustained development.
He maintained that Soludo’s leadership style has inspired hope among people who had lost faith in political promises, pointing out that the governor’s record of performance speaks louder than words. According to him, the family sees in Soludo a leader who not only envisions progress but also implements policies that translate vision into tangible outcomes.
The Agwuzani family’s endorsement adds to the growing list of groups and communities across Anambra State pledging allegiance to the Soludo administration. Many citizens have cited his infrastructural drive, commitment to economic transformation, and investment in human capital as reasons for their continued support.
Observers believe that the governor’s intervention in local issues such as land disputes and public utilities reflects a governance model that prioritizes fairness and grassroots engagement. By addressing long-standing grievances and reviving neglected projects, the Soludo administration appears to be winning the confidence of citizens across the state.
As preparations intensify for the November 8 election, the Agwuzani family’s open declaration of support stands as both a political endorsement and a testimonial of faith in good governance. Their message, anchored in gratitude and conviction, reinforces the belief that leadership rooted in justice and development naturally commands loyalty.
Ogoazi concluded by affirming that the Agwuzani family will continue to support Governor Soludo not just for personal reasons but for the collective good of Anambra people. He stressed that the family’s experience serves as proof that when governance is handled with sincerity, even the most difficult challenges can be resolved peacefully and effectively.
