APC Senator Orji Kalu Backs Trump’s Comments, Claims Jihadists Are Behind Ongoing Bloodshed In Nigeria [VIDEO]

U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks on the killings in Nigeria have received strong backing from a prominent Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. The former Abia State governor and current All Progressives Congress (APC) senator expressed full agreement with Trump’s statement that Christians are being targeted in Nigeria, insisting that the former American leader only voiced what many Nigerians already know to be true.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Kalu stated that Trump’s concerns reflected the reality of insecurity across Nigeria. He emphasized that the issue was not just about Christians but about terrorists and jihadist elements seeking to tear the country apart. According to him, both Christians and Muslims have fallen victim to violent attacks, and the time has come for decisive action against those responsible.

Kalu said the Nigerian government must identify and isolate the perpetrators, describing them as extremists bent on destabilizing the nation. “If anyone says what Trump said is a lie, then the answer is simple, it’s not a lie,” Kalu asserted. “Nigerians are being killed, whether they are Christians or Muslims. There are jihadists who want to destroy Nigeria, and they should be blacklisted and eliminated without pity.”

The senator revealed that he had engaged in discussions with two former U.S. presidents, one from the Republican Party and the other a Democrat, as well as with six sitting senators in Washington, all of whom expressed readiness to help Nigeria combat terrorism. He explained that such international cooperation is crucial, particularly when it comes to intelligence sharing and aerial operations against insurgents.

Before Trump’s warning to Nigeria, Kalu noted, U.S. intelligence agencies must have already gathered significant information on the activities and hideouts of terrorist networks operating within the country. He suggested that recent Nigerian Air Force operations might have benefited from shared intelligence provided by the United States, which has a long history of counterterrorism efforts across the Sahel region.

Declaring himself a long-standing admirer of America, Kalu described his political and diplomatic outlook as “pro-America.” However, he also pointed to U.S. foreign policy decisions that he believes indirectly contributed to the current wave of global instability. He cited the downfall of Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi and Iraq’s Saddam Hussein as key turning points that unleashed chaos across Africa and the Middle East.

“When Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein were alive, they maintained strong control over their borders,” he explained. “After their deaths, weapons of all kinds spread throughout the region. Today, we are living with the consequences of those actions, as arms continue to circulate among terrorists and criminal groups.”

Kalu dismissed speculation that the United States is targeting President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Instead, he maintained that Washington’s concern lies squarely with the threat posed by jihadist organizations operating within Nigeria. According to him, American authorities are focusing on groups responsible for mass killings, kidnappings, and the destruction of rural communities rather than meddling in Nigeria’s internal politics.

He added that some Nigerians misunderstood the intent behind Trump’s comments, assuming that they signaled a diplomatic rift or political pressure on the Nigerian government. “Nigerians are celebrating, thinking the U.S. is after Tinubu’s government. That’s not true. The Americans are going after the jihadists causing chaos across our land,” he clarified.

Kalu urged Nigerians to set aside political differences and confront the real threat of terrorism with unity and determination. He emphasized that both local and international collaboration are essential to ending the bloodshed that has plagued the country for years. According to him, the time has come to prioritize national security over partisanship and to support every effort aimed at restoring peace and stability across Nigeria.
