Popular Nigerian crossdresser and social media personality, Bobrisky, has shared a deep reflection on the attitudes of Nigerians toward people who display happiness or success openly. The controversial influencer, known for her flamboyant lifestyle and outspoken opinions, took to Instagram to share what she described as a lesson learned from her experiences living among Nigerians.
She claimed that Nigerians generally dislike seeing others happy or thriving, especially when such happiness is displayed publicly. According to her, people in the country are dealing with various forms of hardship, and as a result, many find it difficult to celebrate others who appear to be living comfortably or joyfully. Bobrisky explained that flaunting wealth or affection on social media can attract unnecessary negativity, envy, and even lead to the destruction of relationships.
In her words, she said she had learned this lesson “the hard way,” emphasizing that some people derive satisfaction from watching others fall apart. She warned her followers to avoid sharing details about their relationships, wealth, or sources of happiness with anyone, including family members and close friends. Her post read: “One thing I learnt the hard way as an ex Nigerian is never to bring what makes me happy on social media. Nigerians are going through a lot, so imagine flaunting your wealth or who’s making you happy in their faces, haa, they will make sure that relationship scatters and they will laugh at you. Please hide who’s making you happy from your own family, let alone friends. Let the relationship be between you and him only.”
Bobrisky’s statement has since stirred conversations online, with many agreeing that jealousy and envy are common traits found in social circles. Some social media users echoed her sentiments, noting that publicizing relationships or luxury often attracts unnecessary scrutiny and evil wishes. Others, however, argued that the crossdresser’s comments were too generalized, claiming that not all Nigerians exhibit such behavior.
Despite the mixed reactions, Bobrisky maintained her stance, stressing that privacy is essential to maintaining peace and protecting one’s joy. Over the years, she has been known to display her opulent lifestyle online, showcasing expensive fashion pieces, lavish parties, and romantic gifts. However, her recent post suggests a shift in her mindset regarding public exposure.
She explained that she now prefers to keep her personal life away from social media, believing that happiness should be nurtured quietly rather than displayed for validation. According to her, once people sense that someone is happy, they may begin plotting ways to disrupt that peace.
The statement adds to Bobrisky’s long history of controversial remarks that often spark public debate. While some see her advice as sound and based on wisdom gained from experience, others believe it reflects a broader societal issue where envy and resentment are common responses to success.
Her message, though simple, carries a warning for social media users who frequently seek attention by flaunting relationships or material achievements. Bobrisky urged them to learn to celebrate privately, arguing that joy shared in silence lasts longer than happiness flaunted before envious eyes.
