Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Praises Officer Yerima, Vows Full Protection For Armed Forces Performing Lawful Duties

 

Abuja, Nigeria – Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru has publicly commended Lieutenant Yerima, the naval officer involved in a confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a contested land access dispute in the nation’s capital. The land in question is reportedly owned by former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.

Speaking during a ministerial press briefing to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration at the National Defence College, Abuja, Badaru emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding all personnel of the Armed Forces while performing their lawful duties.

The Defence Minister assured journalists that the government will continue to uphold the safety and rights of officers acting within the scope of their official responsibilities. “At the Ministry, and indeed within the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty,” he declared.
