The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has broken its silence on the arrest and arraignment of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the younger brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels. The command clarified that the arrest followed a formal petition that detailed several criminal allegations leveled against the entertainer and three other individuals.
According to the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the police received the petition on October 28, 2025. The document accused Sammy West and his associates of multiple offenses, including criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, theft, and cyber-bullying. The complainant’s petition was lodged at the Metro Area Command, prompting investigators to commence inquiries into the allegations.
Adeh explained that after the petition was reviewed, police investigators extended several invitations to Mr. Ojeogwu, urging him to report for questioning. Despite multiple summons, the suspect allegedly failed to honor any of the invitations. This development compelled the police to seek a warrant for his arrest from a competent court. Acting under the authority of that warrant, operatives apprehended him in Lagos and transported him to Abuja for further interrogation.
The police spokesperson emphasized that the arrest was carried out strictly in accordance with the law, following established due process. She confirmed that after comprehensive investigations were concluded, the case file was forwarded to the appropriate legal department, which advised that charges be filed in court. Consequently, on November 6, 2025, Sammy West was formally arraigned before a competent court on multiple counts, including criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, and theft.
During the court proceedings, the magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions. The police did not disclose the identities of the other suspects mentioned in the petition but confirmed that the matter is still under active legal review.
Adeh reiterated that the command’s actions were not influenced by public perception or celebrity status but were driven by a commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice. She maintained that the FCT Police Command operates with utmost respect for human rights and adheres strictly to the rule of law. The statement also served as a reassurance to the public that the police would continue to handle all reported cases, irrespective of the individuals involved, with fairness and professionalism.
Reports about the arrest had earlier generated widespread speculation on social media, with some users alleging that the case might be politically or personally motivated. However, the police clarification sought to dispel such narratives by detailing the timeline of events and the legal process that led to the arrest and arraignment.
Observers familiar with the matter noted that cyber-bullying and criminal intimidation have increasingly become areas of concern for law enforcement, especially with the rise of online altercations involving public figures. Legal experts explained that such allegations, if proven, could attract severe penalties under Nigerian criminal law, depending on the gravity of evidence presented in court.
SP Adeh urged media organizations and members of the public to refrain from speculative reporting, cautioning that the ongoing legal process should be respected. She assured Nigerians that the FCT Police Command would continue to protect all citizens and uphold justice without fear or favor.
The case involving Sammy West adds to the growing list of celebrity-related controversies that have drawn attention to the broader issue of accountability and lawful conduct among entertainers and influencers. For now, the focus remains on the court’s next sitting, where the fulfillment of bail conditions and the commencement of trial will determine the direction of the case.
While Regina Daniels has not issued an official statement regarding her brother’s situation, social media platforms continue to buzz with mixed reactions from fans and the general public. Some users have called for calm and fairness in the judicial process, while others have urged transparency from both the police and the defendant’s representatives.
The FCT Police Command concluded its statement by reaffirming its dedication to professional policing and adherence to constitutional standards. The command, according to Adeh, remains steadfast in ensuring that justice is served, both for complainants and defendants, under the guiding principle of due process and respect for human dignity.
