UPDATE: Married Woman Faces Court After Allegations Against Husband Proved False Through Evidence In Enugu

Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of a woman who allegedly made false accusations against her husband, claiming he defiled their two daughters. The command revealed that after a thorough investigation, the allegations were found to be untrue, leading to legal action against the complainant.

The incident came to light when Okonkwo Chisom, a 29-year-old woman, lodged a formal complaint at the Emene Police Division on November 25, 2025. She claimed that her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, had sexually assaulted their children, aged five and three, and had threatened her life to prevent disclosure.

Authorities swiftly arrested the husband and conducted a meticulous investigation through the State Intelligence Department (SID). Findings contradicted the mother’s claims, showing that during the alleged incidents in 2024 and 2025, Chisom had traveled with all the children to their hometown in Imo State. The investigation also revealed that their seven-year-old son had voluntarily exonerated his father in two separate handwritten statements, stating that his mother had coached him and his sisters to make false allegations. Video evidence further corroborated the testimony, clearly showing inconsistencies in the mother’s claims.

SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu Police Command’s spokesperson, stated that Chisom Okonkwo attempted to withdraw the case once it became evident that the investigation would reveal the truth. Following the verification of facts, she was charged with defamation and providing false information to law enforcement. The Magistrate Court of Enugu State subsequently arraigned her on a two-count charge and granted bail, with the case adjourned for further proceedings.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the detectives of SID for their impartial and diligent handling of the matter. He emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to justice and fairness, highlighting that false or malicious allegations would be prosecuted in strict accordance with the law.

The case underscores the police command’s dedication to ensuring that all complaints are investigated thoroughly, protecting both the rights of victims and the integrity of accused individuals. It also serves as a warning against the filing of fabricated claims, which not only jeopardize innocent lives but also attract serious legal consequences.

Authorities continue to urge the public to report legitimate concerns while cautioning against misuse of the legal system to settle personal disputes or make false allegations. The matter remains under judicial review as the court prepares for the next hearing, marking a significant precedent for handling cases of falsified accusations within the state.
