Anambra Governor Rewards Excellence: Miss Ifebude Chelsea Benson Bags N500,000 for Outstanding NECO Performance

 


In a remarkable show of support for academic excellence, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has awarded a cash prize of N500,000 to Miss Ifebude Chelsea Benson, the top scorer in the 2023 National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.

Miss Ifebude, who hails from Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, achieved a remarkable feat by securing the highest grades possible. She scored A1 in all nine subjects she sat for during the examination, making her the best overall candidate. Her exceptional performance has not gone unnoticed, and her determination to excel has earned her not only recognition but also a path to higher education.

Following her outstanding achievement, Ifebude was offered admission into the University of Abuja, where she is currently pursuing a degree in Medicine and Surgery. The bright young scholar’s admission to study one of the most competitive courses available is a testament to her academic prowess and determination.

The N500,000 cheque was presented on behalf of the Governor by the State’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh. The occasion was a symbolic gesture of the state government's continued commitment to promoting education and fostering a culture of academic excellence among Anambra State students.

In her remarks during the presentation, Prof. Chuma-Udeh highlighted the importance of encouraging exceptional students and said that the Governor’s initiative aims to inspire other pupils and students in the state to strive for greatness. She noted that the state government had consistently invested in the educational sector, ensuring that Anambra pupils are provided with the resources and support needed to perform at the highest levels. She further emphasized that the long-term goal is to elevate Anambra's education system to the standards seen in developed countries, positioning Anambra children to compete globally in every field.

“The Governor’s gesture is part of the ongoing effort to motivate young learners to take their studies seriously and set ambitious academic goals,” Prof. Chuma-Udeh stated. She also added that the success story of students like Ifebude Chelsea Benson should serve as an inspiration to others in the state, showing them that hard work and dedication yield rewards.

Mr. Ben Benson, the proud father of the awardee, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Soludo for recognizing his daughter's exceptional achievement.
