A joint security team made up of the Police, the Military, and the Ihiala Vigilante has successfully rescued a kidnapped victim following a dramatic shootout with armed criminals in Ihiala, Anambra State. The team’s vigilance and quick action during a routine patrol on the morning of March 26 led to the rescue of the victim and the capture of one of the armed suspects.

The dramatic sequence of events began when the security team, conducting a routine surveillance operation along the Ihiala road, noticed a suspicious vehicle—a black shuttle bus with the registration number RSH 255MS. The vehicle’s erratic movements immediately caught the attention of the operatives, prompting them to stop it for a routine check.

As the security team attempted to intercept the shuttle, the vehicle’s occupants opened fire on the operatives in a brazen attempt to flee. This led to an intense exchange of gunfire as the security team, in a coordinated response, managed to immobilize one of the armed assailants. The remaining four gang members, who sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds, fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle in their haste to escape.

Upon conducting a thorough search of the shuttle bus, the security operatives made a chilling discovery—inside the vehicle was a blindfolded man, who was later identified as a kidnapped victim. The victim, who appeared disoriented and traumatized, was immediately rescued, and first aid was administered by the police operatives at the scene.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, he confirmed that the victim was safely rescued and taken to a secure location for debriefing. According to Ikenga, the victim’s condition was stabilized, and he was given the necessary medical attention after the harrowing ordeal.

The police also recovered the shuttle bus, which is now in their custody as part of their ongoing investigation into the incident. The authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention in preventing such criminal acts.

In his press release, Ikenga also issued a critical advisory to healthcare providers, urging both private and public hospitals to be on the lookout for individuals with suspicious injuries.
