In a bold step towards fulfilling his administration’s promise of infrastructural transformation, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has commissioned two major road projects in Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The projects, unveiled as part of activities marking his third year in office, reaffirm his commitment to enhancing road networks and tackling environmental challenges in the state.
One of the newly completed projects, the 10.8-kilometer Nkwo Oraifite to Nkwo Nnewi Road, also known as Agba Ụzọ Ịnọ, is set to significantly improve transportation in the region. This vital route links the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway through Nkwo Oraifite to Nkwo Nnewi, easing mobility for residents and businesses while fostering economic growth.
Additionally, the Governor officially launched the construction of the 5.8-kilometer Oraifite Civic Center to Onitsha Expressway Road, a long-neglected thoroughfare ravaged by severe erosion. In some sections, the erosion had expanded to a staggering 10-meter width and 22-meter depth, making passage nearly impossible for residents. Governor Soludo assured the community that robust intervention strategies had been put in place to prevent further degradation and restore the road to a durable state.
A Bold Vision for Sustainable Roads
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Soludo emphasized the strategic importance of these projects, noting that beyond easing transportation, they are designed to provide lasting solutions to flooding and erosion problems that have plagued Ekwusigo for years. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality infrastructure, urging contractors to maintain high standards and complete the projects within the stipulated timelines.
Highlighting his broader infrastructure agenda, the Governor revealed that his government has already awarded contracts for 750 kilometers of road construction, out of which more than 420 kilometers have been successfully completed. Impressively, Anambra State is achieving an average monthly road completion rate of 12 kilometers, a testament to the administration’s unwavering dedication to progress.
Community Leaders Applaud Soludo’s Impact
The event was attended by prominent community leaders and stakeholders who lauded Governor Soludo for his proactive leadership. Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, the Commissioner for Works, shed light on the dire impact of erosion in the area, noting that before the state’s intervention, many residents had been forced to abandon their homes due to worsening road conditions. He praised the Governor for his decisive action in reclaiming and rehabilitating these critical infrastructures.
In his remarks, Sir Emeka Offor, a respected philanthropist and community figure, commended Soludo’s infrastructure drive and pledged unwavering support. He described the Governor as a true ally of the people, urging citizens to rally behind his developmental initiatives.
Similarly, Mayor Chimezie Obi of Ekwusigo Local Government Area and Sir Vin Dike, President-General of Oraifite, expressed their appreciation for the Governor’s remarkable achievements. They noted that under Soludo’s leadership, an unprecedented six roads have been constructed in Ekwusigo alone, a record-setting feat in Anambra’s history.
Paving the Way for Re-Election?
With the visible transformation of the road network and the overwhelming support from community leaders, calls for Governor Soludo’s second-term bid are growing stronger. Residents and stakeholders view his accomplishments as a solid foundation for continued leadership, with many pledging their commitment to his re-election in 2025.
As Anambra State continues its march towards infrastructural excellence, Governor Soludo’s administration remains focused on delivering more high-impact projects, ensuring that communities across the state benefit from sustainable development.
