Soludo’s Bold Reforms: How Anambra Became One of Nigeria’s Safest States

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has highlighted the creation of the state’s Homeland Security outfit as a defining achievement of his administration, declaring that it has positioned the state as one of the safest in Nigeria.

Reflecting on his three years in office during a televised interview, Soludo painted a picture of Anambra’s past struggles with insecurity. Criminal gangs had once held entire local governments hostage, instilling fear in residents and paralyzing economic activities. However, the tides have turned dramatically under his leadership.

With the enactment of a groundbreaking Homeland Security law and the establishment of a modern security framework, the state has undergone a major transformation. According to Soludo, this initiative tackles crime at its roots, addressing key issues such as cultism, kidnapping, and drug abuse.

“We designed a comprehensive security strategy that doesn’t just fight crime but prevents it from festering,” the governor explained. “This includes cutting off the supply chain for criminal activities, ensuring intelligence-driven policing, and fostering a collaboration between state and federal security agencies.”

His administration’s proactive measures, including intelligence gathering, community engagement, and cutting-edge technology, have reportedly made Anambra a fortress against criminal elements.

Anambra’s Healthcare Revolution: A National Model

Beyond security, Soludo’s government has also made significant strides in healthcare, earning both national and regional recognition. Anambra recently clinched Nigeria’s top prize for primary healthcare, securing a $700,000 reward. Additionally, it was named the best-performing state in the Southeast in the same category.

“This is not just a trophy—it’s proof of the relentless efforts we have invested in healthcare,” Soludo stated. “Our commitment to primary health has led to groundbreaking improvements in service delivery across the state.”

Under his administration, all 326 electoral wards in Anambra now boast fully refurbished primary healthcare centres, each well-equipped and staffed with medical professionals. To sustain this momentum, the government has recruited over 1,000 healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, significantly boosting the state’s medical workforce.

A major highlight of Soludo’s health reforms is the emphasis on maternal healthcare. The introduction of free antenatal care, complete with free medication and delivery services, has benefited over 102,000 pregnant women, reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

A Legacy of Transformation

Governor Soludo’s tenure so far has been marked by bold, strategic reforms aimed at improving the lives of Anambra residents. His approach to governance, focusing on security and health, has not only reshaped the state’s landscape but has also positioned it as a model for others.

With three years under his belt, the governor remains determined to deepen these gains, ensuring that Anambra continues on its path to sustainable development and security.
