Popular Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has announced his intention to contest Nigeria’s presidency in the 2027 general election. The controversial preacher, known for his energetic and theatrical preaching style, declared his ambition during a sermon on Sunday, a moment that has since gone viral on social media.
Odumeje emphasized the need for young and technologically inclined leadership, arguing that both past and present Nigerian leaders have failed to move the country forward due to their age and outdated methods. Although he did not disclose the political party under which he intends to run, he made it clear that his vision is to bring modernization and development to the nation.
"The country needs a vibrant, resilient, and forward-thinking leader like me to usher in real progress,” he said. “We need a young leader, a digital leader, not old cargoes.”
Addressing his congregation, Odumeje asked if they were ready for his presidency, assuring them that his leadership would introduce modern infrastructure and a more technologically advanced society. He specifically mentioned plans to construct a major road, which he called “Citadel,” as part of his development agenda.
"Are you ready for me? Odumeje for president? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to give you a modern life, a digital life,” he proclaimed.
His declaration has generated mixed reactions across social media, with some of his followers expressing excitement over the possibility of his leadership, while others remain skeptical about his political aspirations.
As the 2027 election draws closer, it remains to be seen whether Odumeje will formally register his candidacy with a political party and how his campaign will unfold in Nigeria’s highly competitive political landscape.
