21-year-old Precious Anegbode Arrested After Fatal Stabbing of Boyfriend During Heated Dispute in Lagos

A young Lagos woman, 21-year-old Precious Anegbode, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Damilola, to death during a heated altercation that erupted in his residence in the Ijegun area of the state. The disturbing incident unfolded on Friday, April 2025, and has since left the local community shaken and in disbelief.

The tragic sequence of events began when Anegbode reportedly visited Damilola at his home. What started as a routine visit quickly spiraled into a verbal exchange, which escalated into a physical confrontation, culminating in fatal violence.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the argument was prolonged and emotionally charged. One resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, recounted the sequence of sounds that preceded the tragedy. “We heard them arguing loudly. It went on for quite some time,” the source said. “Then it became worse. Suddenly, the shouting stopped and we heard the girl crying out. That was when some of us rushed to the apartment.”

Upon entering the scene, residents were met with a grim sight — Damilola lay motionless on the floor, his body bearing signs of fatal stab wounds. Anegbode, visibly distressed and crying, was found beside him. The community quickly sprang into action, with some residents rushing the victim to a nearby medical facility in a desperate attempt to save his life.

Sadly, doctors at the Igando General Hospital pronounced Damilola dead upon arrival. The initial response from the neighborhood did not stop at transporting the victim. Other residents reportedly worked together to ensure that Anegbode did not flee the scene before law enforcement could be involved.

Following the tragic development, local authorities were promptly notified. The Igando Division of the Lagos State Police was alerted around 11:30 a.m. on the same day. Officers swiftly arrived at the location, detained Anegbode, and began preliminary investigations.

Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident and provided additional context surrounding the ongoing investigation. He noted that the case was initially reported at the Igando Division but was later transferred to the Isheri Oshun Division as it fell within their jurisdiction.

“Patrol and detective teams were dispatched to the scene,” Hundeyin stated. “The suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The body of the deceased was deposited at the Igando General Hospital mortuary. Our officers documented the scene, took photographs, and recovered the knife allegedly used in the stabbing.”

Police reports indicate that there was visible blood at the crime scene, further confirming the violent nature of the altercation. Anegbode, according to police, gave a confessional statement under caution, though no specifics were released to the public regarding the motive or details of the dispute.

Authorities have stressed that the case will be handled with thoroughness and care. The suspect and case file, along with physical evidence including the recovered weapon, are being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) located at Panti, Yaba. There, detectives will take over the case for a more detailed investigation aimed at uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the killing.

News of the incident has left many in Ijegun shocked, as both the victim and the suspect were reportedly known to some community members. The nature of their relationship prior to the fatal argument remains unclear, though speculation is rife about the pressures and emotions that may have boiled over between the young couple.

Law enforcement officers have urged the public to remain calm and allow due process to unfold, while also cautioning against jumping to conclusions until the investigation is concluded. Mental health advocates have also chimed in, noting the rising number of domestic violence incidents involving young couples, and calling for improved conflict resolution education and emotional support systems.

The Lagos State Police Command has promised transparency as the investigation progresses, reiterating their commitment to justice and the rule of law. For now, Precious Anegbode remains in custody, awaiting the next stage of legal proceedings, while Damilola's loved ones begin the difficult journey of mourning and seeking answers.

This heartbreaking incident adds to a growing list of domestic disputes in Nigeria that have ended in violence or death, prompting renewed calls for early intervention strategies and societal awareness campaigns aimed at preventing such tragedies.

As investigations continue, many are left to ponder how a seemingly normal day turned into a deadly confrontation that claimed a young life and altered another forever.
